turbocad's custom fx

maybe its cuz im used to the visual cue of the small emblem but the big one makes the car look smaller n meaner. i really love the new grill setup exactly how it is

Hey Turbo are you thinking of using a smaller emblem or something? the grill looks great, but I know how you feel when you say you like it sometimes. I felt like that when I had my emblem chrome. The lights look great! love the dual lamps, how do they light up the road at night?

do you think the light output might be just a bit blinding for on-coming traffic? i think in cars like the LS460 hybrid with the 3 xenons on each side, the lights are underpowered so the output from the 3 is equivalent to 1 hid but i might be wrong.

good halogen lights average around 1,700 lumen's of light each bulb.. so a normal cars low beams are around 3,400 lumen's total... hid's at the 4,300k mark put out over 3,000 lumen's each, average around 3,200 lumen's each... so hid cars are already producing 6,400 lumen's of light... even 1 single 1,700 lumen halogen pointed at you in a high beam pattern at night can be blinding, but even the 6,000+ lumen's of an hid car are not really blinding because the light is focused & projectors do a good job of putting all the add'l light where it needs to be & keeping it away from where it don't need to be. some hid cars use a halogen high beam, but bi xenons are the latest improvement, allowing the whole 6,000 lumen's of light to be projected even in a high beam pattern when necissary...

most times a hid car is too bright when oncoming is normally because of very dirty headlights... a dirty headlight will produce huge glare because it intercepts the huge amount of light that is meant for just the road ahead & refracts it to a bright glare to oncoming traffic. Europe actually requires headlight cleaning systems for this reason. if the light is projected right, 2 of these hid projected lights are not blinding, 4 isn't blinding either, hell, even 8 of them wouldn't be blinding under normal proper use, again, assuming proper beam pattern & a clean lens...

my lights are putting out close to 13,000 lumen's, 140 watts of hid lighting...double most of the brightest headlights... it is all focused properly & the cut off is sharp enough that it does not blind anyone under normal use...I have the knob on the dash when all the way down it cuts off around 25' forward of the vehicle on level ground, which is about right... when I crank the knob up to all the way I raise the cutoff point to around 50'... at that setting the lights do look bright to on coming traffic, but not any more bright than a normal hid car with dirty headlights, probably even a bit less than so.

the way they light up the road is wild... super bright.. I have never had any kind of headlight approach what these headlights do, 12,000 lumen's focused properly on the road with a slightly wider spread because the outer ones are spread slightly without sacrificing any center as the inners cover that... when I hit the high beams holly hell breaks loose though, bi-xenons are among the brightest high beams there are & mine are overall double the lumen's of any other... damn there pretty sick... 12,000 lumen's focused straight ahead is damn bright..., I do not blind anyone unless I intend on doing so... I took a trip to jersey today & drove back at night where there are roads with no lighting at all... the performance of these lights was so sweet.... I could easily go to 8k bulbs & still have enough light, where single projectors will start to become inadequate at those color temperatures & above...

oh yeah, not sure yet about the grille emblem & yeah, the shrouds will go in when done :D

well I got the headlights in...the painting of the led bezels turned into a huge pain in the ass so I haven't finished them yet, but the radiator support is modded & the dual projectors are in & working perfect... there naked with no bezels but sealed with new lenses, when the bezels are done I'll pop them in.the alignment of the projectors came out perfect... the light output is fantastic, double in every sense of the word... I like it:biggrin: so bright, yet the cut off points are so nice that they don't blind anyone, but they light up the road like sick bright... they'll look nicer when the bezel goes in... I went on a little picture taking spree:smile:

You're still going to put the fogs on right ? Even though you obviously don't need them .

fogs will go in, yellow bi-xenons too... don't know if they'll raise & lower too yet though... maybe... that would be cool...

Dee, that fx drove past me like 4 times, staring, then parking further down & looking... then circling around again.... thought he would come up & talk to me but when I looked at him he just looked away & made believe he wasn't looking... I didn't even realize he was in the shot through the 2" LCD viewfinder of my camera... only saw it when I uploaded to the pc...

now I notice other fx's really looking at my fx... had one on the highway doing circles around me checking it out... I guess mostly only fx guys would notice theres anything special on mine... average guys that don't know the car well may not even notice anything strange or not be able to pin out what's different, but fx's are noticing...

as far as the connections for these, the ballasts only draw significantly on startup, for the initial igniting of the hid's, then they trickle down to very low amperage draw... I connected them both to the OE circuit... if it blew a fuse it would be on bulb startup only, but it doesn't, & I had to do nothing... had it blown the fuse on initial startup then I would have built a circiut with a capacitor to delay the starting of the second set, but no issues, on the OE circuit there fine... same goes for the high beam shutters, they draw\ spike on initiation but then are low draw to maintain... I have them both on the OE circuit too for now with no issues there either...

I didn't know if there are any other cars that use dual hid's OE, but today I walk into my shop & there is a car in my spray booth that has just that... this machine has a lot of things I would love to lend my fx too btw... I think I want to try & get my hands on a set of the reverse lights from this thing... there awesome & have a red reflective ring around them.... perfect for my taillight upgrade... god only knows how much a set of reverse lights are for this thing though... also kinda like the exhaust tips but would look gaudy on anything but a supercar I think... what a machine this thing is... completely carbon fiber, even the frame structure... wild...

J you are exactly right when an FX guy see's an FX that is Modded, they look. With stead glare, or have that look on their face like wow that nice, different or like what year is that, I wonder where he got that from. I've had it happen to me. although my FX is no where near as custom as yours. It's funny but nice to know that although we all have the same ride as someone else (non modders), thatl has it own flare, that people are force to look. I guess that why we all can appreciate what everyone here can do or does to their FX. Keep up the great work.

? do you have extra tails and if so how much? you can pm a quote to if you can pls. Thx

I dig those circular lights already...:top:

yeah, your picture is better than mine:tongue:, the reverse lights are nice... the inner is the reverse light & the outer ring is a reflector... I'm loosing my reverse lights with my new tails & also going to eliminate the stock reflectors... I was going to build reflectors into the replacement tails but reflectors in the tails limit what I can do with them... these lights might make me have to redesign the whole rear bumper, but there really nice....

dee, I'll see what I have in spare tails & let you know...
