turbocad's custom fx

I really want to install a 2 din in dash unit in my fx and relocate my stock screen, I was wondering if there was a specific 2din entertainment system that would fit best with minimal modification. I am concerned mostly with the depth of the unit.

I would love to install a carputer but i do not think i am technically capable of doing so lol.

Quick couple questions regarding the carputer install,

other than mounting the screen, how did you go about wiring the computer to the power, audio, etc? Is there a specific computer unit that I could purchase that would work with the Metra wiring harness?

also, what type of computer unit & screen did you purchase?

one last question, what about the circuit board connected to the back of the radio bezel? Did you relocate this? Or remove it?
I've seen some people remove and bondo their radio bezel but I wondered how they did this without damaging the circuit board.

I put my stock screen where my ashtray is. I took out my ashtray and cut the opening to the size of my stock screen. Im still working on a trim to house the stock screen. As for a headunit, i would recommend pioneer double dins. As long as you get the metra harnes, you just wire it up to the harness to the new radio and your set.

Ya, I planned on putting my stock screen where the clock is, I like that look.

Which 2 Din unit did you install? Did you have any issues with the stock screen opening being too small? Or the depth not being deep enough to fit the aftermarket unit?

thanks for your info

man, now a days I wouldn't screw with a carputer over just installing a tablet, even back then a tablet was always my first choice, even the 10.4" screen in the dash of my fx is actually a fujitsu windows xp tablet, but lately I've been finding android tablets to be the best overall install, def what I'd recommend over a pc in most cases....

I did an android tablet in my last car and just got another car recently and installed an android tablet in that one too, can't beat the bang for the buck and the ease of install and the functionality the tablet gives. and android just keeps getting better and better, can do so much with it now...

win8 also does look very promising as a touchscreen OS and I did also really consider that for my current install too, but android is still better in the smaller 7" screen area, win8 really needs at least slightly larger screen and would be a waay more complicated and elaborate install because of that

Whats up TC, Dont mean to hijack your thread Fullera123 but, TC how do you get music/radio or ................ just listen thru your tablet or phone or what? I know we talked about this sometime ago.

Hey turbocad

I'm new to the forum. One your fx is insane. You truly did some magic on that bad boy. Looks awesome. I just read through your whole post and. I'm super interested in those head lights you made w a secondary projector. They are awesome. That dtrl box in there is so ugly.

I know this was some some time ago. But is there any chance you have another set of those. Or is there some possibility you would like to make another?

I first found merick through the forums. And I have been talking w him. He liked the idea of another projector. But didnt seem to want to make them. He told me about you and that's how I found your post. You have done some really cool things to your fx.

Bump! New FX owner here, just wanted to say i looked over your thread for "inspiration" but you really went 500x further with your FX than i'll even think about going with mine (just a commuter). Amazing work though!
