What kind of battery are you running?

This is one of the reasons I was a bit reluctant to replace the battery myself. In other cars, you don't need to remove these types of covers and apply any seal.
I agree, I think I will ask at the Dealers about this next time I am near there.

problem is a lot of dealers don't. Aaron's dealer did. And there are reports from other individuals getting water in their passenger area and filter because of it supposedly. I've had no problems but would like to know the item # of the piece so I can buy it for the piece of mind since i had my battery changed by the dealer and they said they don't replace that piece Aaron is talking about....but I checked and it is frey over time.

Isn't the interstate battery what Infiniti/Nissan puts in every car? When I got my battery replaced last week the guys at the Nissan dealer told me that that's what Nissan and infiniti use for all their vehicles.

Not sure but I have a service appointment on Monday so I will inquire. I am waiting for my service appointment before I change the battery, I'm going to have them test it. The guys at Interstate in Long Island City were exceptional with their customer service, he actually pointed out that the sticker on top of the battery is dated 1/12 and it is a stock Infiniti battery. It looks like the battery is not the original battery as I first thought, and if it was replaced right before I bought the vehicle about 1/12 then it should still be under the 5 year factory warranty. Some places would have just swapped the battery and ran with my $130. I will ask about the brand name of battery that Infinti of Manhasset uses and see what they say. Hopefully I get a new replacement battery under warranty.

Now I just need to find out what weather stripping they are supposed to be replacing. I'm pretty sure they wont replace it unless I make it known that I know it is supposed to be replaced.

Unless it was a favor to him, I don't see why one dealer would replace it and another one wouldn't. I would like to think that they all follow the same protocol, especially with simple things like a battery change. Now I'm slightly concerned about this. Who wants water damage in the inside of their Infiniti?

In order to remove the battery u have to remove the plastic piece that inserts into the windshield. You notice that the windshield butts up against an originally white foam piece that over time gets dirty and fragile and I guess this is what keeps water from the windshield going own into your open passenger area where the filter sits. Aaron said this white piece needs replacing and his dealer did and that it is recommended each time it's removed.

I had my dealer look up the details and conclude not finding the part number. This is completely my guess but my thinking is this piece is not sold separately and u have to buy the whole plastic piece that goes into the windshield that contains the foam. And if that hypothesis is accurate then it would lead me to think what Aaron is thinking is false. But then how would Aaron get a new piece if that was the case.

I'm not sure. It's bugged me awhile.

Aaron can u chime in?

I can send you a copy from the manual that describes the battery change out and pics Jonas, or do you have the manual.

Thanks Wayne I have it. I know it says replace ept sealer with a new one in bold in the manual for the top cowel. But the seal that stops the water is inside the cowel not under it according to Aaron.

Where the heck is Aaron to straighten this out, or is he just pulling our pi$$ers. Come on Aaron educate us my friend.

Costco Interstate Battery for $72 + $7 core charge, refunded back in cash when i brought the factory battery back in, 3YR/36MO FULL WARRANTY, Costco Rocks!

Infiniti replaced my battery for free since it failed a load test. Guess I am happy about not having to pay for a new battery but at the same time I'm like wtf because the manufacture sticker on top of the battery they replaced was dated 1/12, so it had a 2 year service life!? The up side is now that I know I just got it replaced and Infiniti has a 5 year warranty on the battery you better believe I'm going to stay on top of it, doubt I will get five years out of this one either. I totally forgot to ask about the weather seal in the midst of listing all of the things I wanted them to do. I will definitely be paying attention to whether any type of leakage on the passenger side occurs now. My rear doors wood grain finally started to peel off so they replaced that for free under the service bulletin out for the 2nd gens on that.

Sorry for the late reply.

I have no idea what the part number is. I actually knew nothing of the ept sealer until my service advisor informed me that Infiniti tech line released something about replacing that sealer every time the plastic wiper cowl is taken off when the battery is removed. Or else you could get water leaks down the road. It's a white strip of foam that seals the surface between the glass and windshield wiper cowl to keep water from leaking down into the battery compartment area where the microcabin filter is.

By the way there is another part of the car that uses the ept sealer. I know some of you tint your taillights. If you ever remove the 3rd brake light there is a white ept sealer around the 3rd brake light that requires replacing or it could possibly lead to water leaks in the rear cargo area. Factory service manual states this.
