What kind of battery are you running?

What size Optima yellow top should I be running in my 50? Their website says I should be running the red top and since they go by the computer so is every place I call that carries Optima. I'm having the same issues with the Die Hard Gold also. I called Sears and they said the computer tells them a Die Hard Platinum for $230. For that price I might as well go Optima.

Still have my original battery in there and for the first time I had a ridiculously harsh cold start the other day. I didn't like how it started at all.

Yellow top isn't what you want, it's deep cycle, for big stereos and such. The Red Top has more CCA. FWIW, Optima's are very finicky. I killed 3 of them in about 3 years - red tops. When new, everything is great, but if you ever run one dead, apparently there is a special procedure to charge it back up. Can't just jump start your car or hook up a charger or else you'll reduce the life span of the battery. I didn't know about this back then and the car wasn't driven a lot so I'd just leave it on a trickle charger or forget and the battery would die. Jump start the car and be on my way, but after a few jump starts, the red top would just stop holding a charge as well. The only reason I ran them was because I relocated the battery to my trunk for a turbo kit and the AGM made me more comfortable than a standard lead-acid sloshing around. But many other makers make AGM now, so Optima red top isn't your only choice.

I'm currently using Duralast gold in my BMW since it met the OEM requirements. No long term reviews, only been 4 months, but other people have had good success with them long term.

I know you're not in Canada but one of the better batteries i found is the Motomaster Eliminator Ultra AGM battery. It's a deep cycle battery. Best battery i have ever owned. I have owned 3 yellow tops. Paid $139.99 and got a 5 year replacement warranty + 5 year boost assists

The early 2nd Gens used battery group 35, and later years used 24F. This is similar with the 2nd Gen G35/37.

24F provides more CCA than group 35, so if you need a new battery, go with 24F. 24F is slightly larger than group 35, but only slightly and still fits in the battery location.

My battery on my 2nd gen FX35 was dying and when I went back to the dealer for the prorated warranty I asked specifically for the 24F size. The service advisor said that Infiniti would use what is required by my vehicle. At that point I was contemplating going out and buying and installing my own 24F battery of choice. But since I was there I just said go ahead with the battery test and replacement.

They ended up putting an OEM 24F battery for me.

I also had the Service Manual print out for the battery replacement procedure and asked if they replaced the EPT sealer when removing the cowl top cover, he didn't even know what that was and said no they don't. I'm not sure why dealers don't follow items listed in the service manuals. Another Infiniti dealer I spoke with said they don't even replace the differential and transfer case crush washers, they don't even have some of them in stock.

This is the sealer on the cowl cover, not the part that meets the windshield correct?

I was also looking at an Interstate Battery, they get really good reviews on the net and their top battery recomended for the FX50 is rated at 1000 amps and 800 cca. They have an Interstate dealer close by and they want $130 with my old battery.

Yes correct, sealer for the cowl cover. I can't tell from the service manual what exactly is this EPT sealer is anyways. Does anyone know if it is some kind of liquid rubber gasket thingy? Or is it like weather stripping?

I would go with the interstate battery, that is a really really good amount of CCA at 800.

I'm curious as to what the EPT is, it looks like a sealant, does anyone know for sure. I looked through the manual and it didn't say.
I will probably replace my battery this summer.

it is weather stripping and the service manual does say replace it but Aaron has mentioned it refers to another sealants which is a white foam that goes against the windshield. I still can't find that piece that Aaron says the dealer replaced. supposedly Aaron has said it's important to prevent water to come into the passenger side. This gets taken apart when you replace the battery too, so if anything it's not the EPT sealant that needs replacing, but the other piece that is foam.

I can't find what you are talking about in the drawings, all I see is to apply the EPT at numerous spots on the RH cowl top cover and the on the RH hood ledge cover.
They call it EPT Sealer.

So there is a weather stripping that is supposed to be replaced when the battery gets changed?

That's what I'm trying to find out also, Aaron is the only one that knows about it. As I said previously, the only thing I could find was to replace the EPT Sealer on the cowl cover and the hoodledge cover.

Isn't the interstate battery what Infiniti/Nissan puts in every car? When I got my battery replaced last week the guys at the Nissan dealer told me that that's what Nissan and infiniti use for all their vehicles.

This is one of the reasons I was a bit reluctant to replace the battery myself. In other cars, you don't need to remove these types of covers and apply any seal.
