What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

Currently in the let it cool down phase of coolant flush #2, then once I empty the water out I'll replace the o-rings on the drain plug and air relief plug. Then the fun begins with the thermostat, which seems pretty easy, and the water pump, which gets a bit trickier since it's run by the timing chain. I watched a video on a DIY and it's not too hard, but the guy said something about making sure you do this one part right (but he didn't clarify exactly what to do/not to do) or you can knock the chain off a tooth and have to take the whole front cover off. The service manual just says to rotate the crank pulley just enough one direction to loosen the tensioner and remove that, then rotate it back to loosen the water pump.

It was on Wednesday rather than today but my stainless steel knobs arrived so I put them in. First thing that might be considered a mod in my sparse garage. Baby steps.

Had my 8th lifetime Firestone alignment done yesterday, big difference in the ride. I kinda let it go after my last lowering dial in procedure with the 21's. Still find it hard to believe that it's not closer to flush with the beefy spacers.

Finally finished up the water pump. Never again. Doing the coolant purging cycles now and hoping nothing breaks driving out of town next week. Something doesn't seem quite right, but I don't know if it's a real issue or not.

^:plus1: You will be amaze how much a dark color carpet makes the brick interior pop out some more. Here my change over

How would u rate the overall swap? Gonna be doing it in the summer. I know what needs to be done. Its just give the chain slack that I don't like about it. So much easier with timing belts.

One thing I always hated about the brick interior was too much orange. Unlike BMW, Infiniti color matched the carpet in brick. They should of made the carpets black to add some contrast.

Andys looks absolutely perfect Imo. I'd I had a 1st gen with brick interior I would do it.

Well everything right up until the chain part is pretty straightforward. For some reason I couldn't get enough slack, then turned the crank differently somehow after spending lots of time trying to get it out, and got enough slack. There's just so many things that can go wrong with the swap. Would be a lot easier with the radiator out and front bumper off but I wasn't going that route, so you can get a direct view at it. I remember watching the one DIY video I could find and the guy was saying how you have to be careful with the turning of the crank or you can throw the timing off, so I was very careful with that. Maybe too careful, or maybe I threw something off when I finally got the chain to go slack enough. I'm also wondering if the tensioner mounting surfaces lined up ok, because it seems like the chain is rattling a little bit more and I think the tensioner relies on oil pressure to activate. It seemed tight before I bolted everything back up though. I did notice that the cylinder can rotate a little in the tensioner and that can make it so it gets caught and won't extend so hopefully that didn't happen after I pulled the pin to release it.

To sum it up, it's definitely doable but not quite as simple and straightforward as it seems, and there are lots of places where you can screw up.

Doing my passenger valve cover replacement this weekend after I saw a puddle on #5 spark plug. Yesterday I got a ses light too.
