What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

Thanks Guys:))

Letting it dry in my garage overnight, then in the morning am going to wet sand it and buff it out. So tomorrow afternoon my FX will finally be put back together.

That looks great! Where did you get the paint from?

I've been getting paint for all my cars from here:

www.automotivetouchup.com
Great customer service and their paint is always top notch.

Great job Adam. Can I send you my bumper to have it painted? Didn't know you do body work too. Kudos for you. :good:
So how much paint needed for the fender?

Andy, sure, I can be the unofficial IS painter lol. I didn't know I had the body work skill in me until now lol. I ordered 12oz and used about half of that.

Nice work Adam. Looks great.

Thanks. Final finish tomorrow so that will be a test wether it will flow with the rest of the car or not

That's impressive DIY skills GLFX! What's your paint setup like?

Thank you.

I have a cordless grayco sprayer, and also a handheld attachment for aerosol cans with fine mist tips to avoid the uneven paint distribution straight from a spray can.

This was only my second time dealing with body filler and a larger area like this. So still learning.
Before my FX, I fixed a hood on my friend's Mustang.

This is what I have. We bought it mainly to paint the house, fences, and any large areas. It's not exactly designed for car paint, but with a few tricks it's great for large areas, bumpers, hoods, fenders. You can use any kind of paint, from water based, acrylic or oil. To save the paint cup, I use plastic liner, and clean the nozzle before the paint dries. It's like a cordless drill with a few settings to adjust the power and volume of the sprayer.

Other one, which I used to blend in and around the edges, to save paint, is a spray trigger.

Here are the links for both:

Nearly one week later and am officially done with fixing my fender. Car still needs a good wash and wax of the fender, wet sanding wasn't bad, but I overdid it in one spot so took me longer to fix my own f-up. I'd say it pretty good, the paint is a tad darker, hood, bumper blend well but in a certain angle the door has a bit lighter shade so will blend that over the weekend.
Only took 2 pics during the process. Will share better when I roll her out to the driveway.

It certainly looks like a match through the pictures. Nice work.

Also, now that you have that wrapped up, you can get to work on that Volvo side mirror DIY. :)

Thanks. The paint is a def match, 2-3 feet away from the car you can hardly tell something was done, but face up, u know :)

And yes I am way overdue for that Volvo DIY;)

Thank You. I can tell you one thing for sure, if my FX (knock on the wood) ever gets hit again, I'm wrapping it. As much as I love my color, it's not an easy one to work with and blend it in. Off to the next project ;-)

Good job man. It seriously looks like it was professionally done.
I wish I had the balls to attempt that on the grille of my G35.

I'm wondering how it will hold up in the long run in terms of durability against rock chips considering you never had access to baking it to properly cure the paint.
