What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

Aaron, given the nice interior job you done. I really don't see any reason to hold you up on a the grille. Seriously.

Good job man. It seriously looks like it was professionally done.
I wish I had the balls to attempt that on the grille of my G35.

I'm wondering how it will hold up in the long run in terms of durability against rock chips considering you never had access to baking it to properly cure the paint.

Thanks Aaron. I think you have the skills to do it, plus the grille would require less work/prep than a body panel. After my attempt of using plasti dip on my grille I painted mine, and it holds up real good. Plus I like I was able to get the gloss that you can't get with plastidip even when you clear coat it. I've taken a few trips to Vegas and Mammoth Lakes and I only have one small chip the size of a pin.
I'd say, give it a try.

Paint will cure fine without baking, it just takes longer. Most small shops don't have ovens, they're very expensive. Paint cures fine on it's own, it's a chemical process that is accelerated by heat. I think it you wait 12+ hours, paint will cure on it's own. If they bake, the car is cured in 30 minutes or so. But after the paint is fully cured, it's the same whether baked or not. Body shops only bake for expedience, if you do a ton of cars, you can't leave them in the booth for 12 hours at a time to cure. Baking also helps with dust in the clear since the paint dries so quickly leaving less time for contamination.

I've had cars custom painted both ways. The durability is identical, the one who baked was just a bigger shop and he had the oven because he did a ton of insurance work and had to hit deadlines.

Got drive belts changed and transmission serviced. They were able to get 6qts out over night, replaced it with Nissan's Matic S

6 qts? Oh no, I only bought 4. Planning to do it tomorrow morning, just a drain and fill. I picked up the matic-s from Nissan, and they gave me matic-k at first. Luckily something told me to check as I was walking to my car.

Hey guys, I am pulling off some mouldings and trim pieces and I am struggling with one piece. The Chrome trim at the bottom edge of the door.

I looked at some pictures and I can't exactly tell what style clips they are. I tried gently prying but they really wouldn't budge much. Then I tried more violent prying and I swear I almost broke the piece.

Advice?

In other news, 5 quarts came out...

Was still a slight drip at that point, only the front raised on jackstands and the drain plug is at the rear of the pan. Good thing is at least I ended it at a round number based on the markings I made in my drain pan. Also glad I went ahead and marked it up to 5 qts.

When I talked to them, I told that usually about 4-5 qts. come out... They suggested I leave car overnight, and they started the drain in the evening, and left it draining overnight; that's how they got 6 qts. Don't think usually that is normal

Yeah, I could definitely see how more would come out over time. This stuff is pretty sticky. I noticed after I left the empty bottle on the ground enough had pooled back down to pour some more out, but no more was dripping when I first poured it in. I let mine slowly drain/drip for a bit to get to 5 qts.

Well, I bought my FX50s 5.0 yesterday and will be taking delivery tomorrow... Yay!
