VK45 –Stage 1 Headers/JWT cams/TB/intake

Wonder if JWT is confident now to sell it the VK45DE cams.

I owe iS an in depth description of this entire procedure. Short answer Ed, JWT is confident in the product and will continue selling it. Based on my experience(s) Clark (JWT's lead engineer/tech) will have a conversation with each buyer to describe the install process.

Good question, smoother and perhaps slightly more subdued at idle. I wasn't sure what to expect but I knew there had to be some small changes as the mid range had essentially never been tuned.

Update - Car is still running strong and doesn't choke out at low idle anymore. Still a slight miss at idle that I want to track down and irradicate, not quite sure who to talk to about this......TB is ready to install and shop is ready to tune again I just need the time to take it in. New resonator is doing its job and exhaust is a bit quieter (still very aggressive but not over the top). I think with some door insulation it will be good to go re: in cabin sound.

Update: Car has been running lean, still needs second half of dyno tune that was cut short. There is a a small exhaust leak near the manifold and possibly by the header collector, all fixable but the in cabin smell - not so good. One positive, I ran a 20oz, bottle of Techron plus through the tank and the engine resonded amazingly well, It seems sitting for so long must have created some issues either in the injectors or in the lines, now there is no miss and zero choke or lunge. Car runs smoother and is all around faster, really looking forward to the next tune and the TB install.

Working on the dyno number Andy! - Dropped car off for Exhaust fix, hopefully will happen this weekend, no rush on my part (BTW-still very pleased with the addition of the new resonator). Leak was causing ECU to read need for additional fuel and as I said above unburned fuel was loading up the cabin something bad. He is going to re-install the bored TB, install the front 35mm spacers, drop the front 1/2", and a couple of other small punch list items. Once its back then its off for tuning again. I keep reading that there may be something effecting the TB input like a possible leak or?, that is causing the slight/subtle miss. Not going to rest until its perfect......I know there is more power there, it is simply buried in the details.

Tuner says he can bring it online, if it doesn't work I'll have them re-install the OE unit. Andy - Do you know if our engines have an AIC or AAV valve?

I was polishing the Bored TB and reading endless docs trying to find reasons for the engine pulse. The amount of threads on people saying don't touch your TB are endless. Too touchy, take it in, have it done, can only be fixed with Consult. I can't remember reading a thread on iS where a DIY went that wrong. Obviously you have to take care with the butterfly valve when cleaning as to not tweak the internals, I wondering if that's where the boring is failing perhaps it is too hard to take it apart bore the core and put it back together without damaging it.

See how popular you are? It pulled better at first then lagged out correct? That's what Andy experienced.

It worked great until I tried to drive home. Such a tease.

Was talking with my friend today. He had a refurb ABS pump, and that also ended up being a dud.

Sensitive gear, not so sure how modifiable some of these pieces are based on how tight the electronic and air flow tolerances are on today's engines.

Hasn't stopped me from sinking a fair amount of cash into TB's though =)

I had issues with one of mine once. Performed about five trillion pedal dances, confirmed their success via cel and uprev, and was never able to get the idle right. I finally took it in to the stealer and they fixed it in 5min with the consult.

You guys think the bored versions could be calibrated with consult?

Paper weight? You think it would or could work based on the initial run success on both Andy's and your ride. why it would perform then fail twice is a mystery......

The threads say consult can beat them into submission. Might be worth a try with the bored unit, that's were I'm headed after this dyno run.

I bet you can. I for one am still in for seeing the TB mod become an option for the Vq and Vk. It is affordable and we know when it works it works.....
