well, my outlook at it is that a real diffuser would need to extend undernieth the belly pan of the fx for it to even attempt to even be a diffuser, this is not a diffuser, it's just a rear valance styled after a diffuser. sometimes styling is enough, where real deal might be a bit overkill. just like the 2010 camaro, murano's crv's & many other cars use rear valances that are diffuser "inspired" without actually having to look like or really be a diffuser.
I've actually considered & mocked up using a real carbon fiber diffuser from a real deal carrera gt & another from a ferrari, but aside from the fact that they were too small for the big ass of the fx they were also rediculously overkill & ricey looking no matter how well integrated with there very agressive styling & how they would need to be mounted to be effective. this is more styled after a diffuser than actually being a diffuser, kinda like many wings & diffusers on street cars are more styling than function really. many body styling is influenced & styled after splitters, wings & diffusers without actually being areodynamically effective
in order for a wing to be effective it may need to be a huge ricey looking thing. a wing on a maxima or a sentra or even a supra or camaro is more styling than actual functionality, but it adds an agressive flavor & attitude if not overdone. if I wanted an actual rear diffuser it would be a seperate aluminum plate extending under the belly, it would extend below this facia & then this facia would become an extension of the diffuser & it would connect to it & flow with it, that could be a possibilty but I think even without a real diffuser this looks nice as just a styling cue for what it is, especially grafted in & smoothed & painted one piece with the bumper. I'm liking it & really considering trying it further...
as far as smooth, I don't know but to me it looks a lot smoother overall than even the factory design which is one thing I really like about it, the factory bumper with the dual steps is almost like a sideways "w", where now it's more curvy & smooth, especially on the profile, now with this filler grafted in the bumper just gracefully curves down & under the fx smoother than even the stock design in overall shape. will look real nice with the wing I'm making & fit well with it I think. it improves the sexy curves of the fx in a way too, the rear now just cuves down, bumps out for the bumper & then smoothly curves down & finishes. the diffuser style blocks kinda make it not too smooth too, just a completely round smooth bumper is something I considered too, but it then looks a bit too plain, like somethings missing, plus, I like the way the exhaust exits through the bumper as opposed to under it. other rear styles I've considered are everything from the 09 maxima to the s55 & even the cls63's, audi a6's, all similar in the smooth fitting shape similar to the fx with lower exhaust exits, but something about this camaro piece just works well to me, & when finished I think it will look hot
front bumper I've pretty much got my mind made up with that, when I'm ready I'm going to order an 09 bmw m6 convertible front bumper cover & graft the lower part of it into the fx front bumper, it's a perfect match & compliment to the fx rounded nose & is exactly the right shape, the right size & the right look to me & I've considered pretty much every bumper style there is, I'm pretty set on the front I think.
sides design wil be heavily dependent on how I wind up ending the sides of the rear bumper too, as the rocker needs to tie in to that visually & match up well there to me, sides are last to design cause it's gotta tie the front into the rear. bringing the wheel well moldings into it & working with them will be a little tricky but I got a few things in mind there too, want to work as 100% bolt on urethane kit style install really, no fiberglass or bondo at all, nyc parking is way too brutal for fiberglass bumpers, I need the flexability & durabilty of factory style urethane plastic composite flexable bumpers really, grafting togeather several oe bumpers into one will give me oe bumper durabilty for the most part.
