turbocad's custom fx

I was thinking of projector blinker, but think it might look like too much, 3 projectors in a row. blinker would have to be stationary & not bi level anyway

I'm putting a bi-level projector in each fog light too, so I think that's enough projectors up front:tongue: I'll probably play with led blinker or something maybe with the lenses...

I've actually played around quite a bit with HUD's in previous cars, not something I would consider for this car really except for maybe a gage or 2, most likely not. same for night vision, for it to be worth doing it'd have to be a thermal imaging setup, the effort far outweighs the benifits in the city really, not something I'd do here, theres too many other areas my efforts are still needed

these rims are 3 piece forged maya's, at first when I bought them I wasn't crazy about the design honestly, I only bought them because they were too good of a deal to pass up at the time & I hate cheap wheels & won't do a rim unless it's a strong forged wheel, after I got them they've really grown on me to the point now that I really like them, but I'm also now thinking of going to 22's maybe....

as far as performance department, I've considered really going ape & doing an engine swap but decided to delay any major projects like that for a while. I want something that's quick & simple & significant. I considered all the options, from a turbo to twins, from a stillen to vortech superchargers, each have there advantages & disadvantages....

in the end I decided that to keep it really simple I would go supercharger, but I don't think I could live with the whining, I mean if it was a vette or a viper then who cares, but I want to keep it classy & quiet. the solution I winded up settling on is a powerdyne belt driven supercharger. I choose it mainly because it's a simple 123 done deal, it's as quiet as a turbo without all the hassles of a turbo, I think eventually I'll wind up doing an engine swap so I didn't want to get really deep with a crazy turbo setup or something to complicated & involved... I think this'll do for now really & give me some performance for now, I'll see where it goes eventually I guess...

also got a set of 6 piston rotora big brakes coming which should look nice... not going crazy there just a 14" front with stock rear but I'll paint the rear caliper & do the rear rotor cross drilled/ slotted to kinda match... really going off on bbks is just way over budget, it ain't hard to spend 7K & better on brakes.... I think what I got coming will do fine though...

this is what the charger looks like, I got a crawford to polish up to match... should look nice

Very nice - see my post on NEX big brake kit. It would be a mis-match in brand names, but the rear 4 piston is reasonably priced:

turbo whine is music to my ears, I'm talking about the gear drive whine of most other blowers... just noisy past the whistle end of it... mechanical noise... like a gear drive timing set... sounds good on a performance car but I'd rather stay quiet if I had the choice. I know it's not a big deal but this one should be quieter & sound more like a turbo than a supercharger I think. I'm sure if I had a regular supercharger I'd be able to live with that too, but the quieter one just sounded interesting... I also like the less common part about it, almost like an oddball, don't know why that appeals to me but it does... it's different.

these blowers got a bad rep & the company is out of business, but there not bad within there limits. actually there are companies out there still developing & supporting this blower, there are upgraded bearings & kevlar internal belt's & even a guy who developed a cnc replacement impeller that ups the cfm's from 800 to 1200 with the same load, 2 lb's more boost with no add'll load on the supercharger. this charger can be pretty cool if it don't self destruct. with enough work this thing could reach the limits of the stock drivetrain & then some I think. can't wait to start playing with it, also got it used at a fraction of what a TT woulda been, that was a major factor too:biggrin:

I seen that post on the NEX bbk, gonna check it out, price looks almost affordable:angel:

sorry to bump the thread, but I just gotta show these in progress... this is work on the finishing to get everything perfect, this is in primer, these headlights are gonna be so hot:biggrin: I can't belive how much work these winded up being, I originally thought it would be pretty easy but it winded up being pretty intense.

ok, I just did a quick minor mod, cluster swap to the 06+ design... at first it didn't light up just straight swapped but after some research I found out that the 06+ cluster has 3 powers & the earlier only had 2... the terminal #4 at the cluster on the < 06's does not have a wire, you just need to add ign/acc power to this terminal & alls good. damn, this thing is BRIGHT! at night fully cranked it looks like it's neon:biggrin: of course it can be dimmed as necissary when the lights are on

during the day it looks cool too & when the car is turned off it kind of disappears, cool look, i like it:tongue:

I like it cause it's as bright as my screen, which used to overpower the instramentation a bit... I also like the titanium color of the gages, I think I'm going to do my headlight & tailight rings in a matching titanium...

I cant wait until your done modding to see it all come together. Those headlights are going to be nuts!!! Nice work!

keemo, yeah, you & me both... most times I'm only done modding when I sell it & move on to another car though, so I think i'll be modding this one for a while yet:tongue:

there is always something else that could use doing, I've still got a long list of mods I'd like to do that will keep me busy for a good while, & then even if all of them were realized, I'm sure I could find even more stuff that I'd like to do too:biggrin:

how much was the 06 cluster, if you don't mind me asking, and where did you get it? I've been working on swapping my LED's in my 03 cluster but burned out one of the components on the circuit board for the gauge bulbs. My options at this point are either buy a new cluster or just run the LED's off an ign/acc wire (which is what i'm probably gonna do).

I got it on ebay, I paid $245 shipped... the only slight drawback is that my fx has the tech package with the radar cruise, this cluster doesn't have that option so I don't get the radar cruise display, not such a big deal really the radar cruise still works fine, when it's first powered it always defaults to the highest setting & then each distance button press cycles through the 3 settings so I can use it no problem. I may try to seperate the cruise display from my oe cluster & build it in somewhere, maybe... that would actually be nice as a heads up display for the cruise really...damn, theres another one of those mods though:tongue:

a new cluster is over $600 from the dealer.

shralp, I'm sorry, but I really wouldn't want to sell it, I need to keep it to validate the actual miles on this fx if I ever go to sell it, which is one reason I hesitate to butcher it to take out the radar sensor display, but the earlier clusters do pop up on ebay from time to time at around $75-$125 or so... I'll keep an eye out for you. I've also got ideas of later on adding an lcd to the cluster taking the place of the tach & speedo, so I may wind up having to do that with my original too...

on the earlier clusters, there are bulbs that are easily accessed from behind, if your only problem is the lighting couldn't you just wire up your own circuit for leds? if your display has the radar cruise & you do find a replacement, I'd be interested in buying your damaged one:tongue:

oh, also, I just realized that I never put the pdf up here for the templates for the mirror cuts, I'll get a seperate thread up with those details soon:biggrin: got a set of these installed on johnmax's fx finally, got a few other locals in line for them too:

totally understand. unfortunately my cluster doesn't have the radar cruise. Mine does have the twist lock bulbs that are really easy to get to in the back. i bought the wrong ones, kept blowing a fuse, then decide to bump the fuse up to 15A and blew the gauge light circuit. I'll be hooking up a ghetto LED circuit of my own, hopefully this weekend.

That's not your FX in that shot, is it? Did you repaint?

no, that's not my fx, I'm still black diamond pearl:tongue:

wiring in the leds from behind the cluster is not total butchery really, I don't see any problems with that except for maybe dimming... theres even a solution for that too if your interested.

what thing do you mean doc, the mirror thing or the cluster thing:smile:
