The Random Question Thread

Wondering if anyone here knows, I have a 2012 nissan maxima sv with 47k on it would it still have a dealership warranty cuz it's only 4 years old?

I think it's getting close to ending. I have a 12 fx35 and my original warranty ends in sept. How ever Nissan might be different then Infiniti with warranty

It depends on the in service date. Warranty should be 4 years/60K You can call any Infiniti or Nissan dealership and give them the VIN and they will give you the in service date. As long as it's after today's date in 2012, you should be covered.

Thanks Stu. I think that will be my next step as I monitor the next 3k miles. I just changed the oil and some water came out - first time this has happened. Would Blackstone be able to tell if a water contaminant is coolant or moisture?

I believe so. They should be able to test for water, as well as glycol, or whatever anti freeze is.

Thanks ocal21 and Eothain I will most definitely call them tomorrow and find out.

I replaced mine driver side a year ago with A-1 CARDONE 606277 from Rockauto.com. No problem so far.

Sorry to bring this back Andy. So I purchased the half assembly CV axle driver's side from Rock Auto. The Sales Rep recommend for me to purchase the SUNTRACK because he said the A1 Cardone is remanufactured as indicated on the "reman" notation. It arrived today but the problem the OEM bolt does not seat flush on the mounting recess as the "bolt collar" comes in contact with the side of the shaft. Which brand did you purchase? Even if I would pick up a longer bolt, it would still not sit flush because of the design of the aftermarket CV Axle.

How did you make it work in yours?

Thanks

Nothing to be sorry about Ruben. Does the Surtrak look much difference than the oem one? Mine is the A1 Cardone Re-manufactured one. No tricks to install mine. Shadow191 ran into some issues installing his. He has an 07, but I don't think is about the bolt not being flush though.

Thanks Andy. The one I purchased fits the mounting except the bolts. Will contact Rock Auto for the Cardone and to arrange for the return of the incompatible item.

I had issues removing my OEM ones due to the depth of the housing. The aftermarket one I bought actually was much easier to install since the housing was shallower and I was able to get a socket on it. Do you have a pic of yours? Is there a scallop next to each set of bolt holes for clearance? Trying to picture why the bolt collar doesn't clear.

I wanted to know if a transmission off of a 04 g35 rwd would fit with my 04 fx35 rwd? Anyone please help. I need a new Trans.

It might, but make sure the part numbers match. 2004.5 is when they changed a few things like where the TCM is mounted (newer ones are on the valve body). If you have the same model, they should be compatible.

How on Earth do you guys get an accurate reading on the transmission fluid dipstick?
When the engine is warm and running and in P, I wipe then check.
Once I pull it out, there's a thick fluid goob on the bottom below the low level.. and the rest of the dipstick has fluid on it..

...So idk if it's over or under??

Looking at starters on rockauto...
PURE ENERGY (remanufactured) $37 + $40core = $77
REMY (remanufactured) $105 + $70core = $175
DENSO (remanufactured) $141 + $34core = $175
AC DELCO (remanufactured) $184 + $49core = $233

I feel skeptical about the low price on the Pure Energy. Anybody have any experiences?
I'm thinking it might be worth the risk just to found out.

There should not be a "thick fluid goob" on the stick. It should look just like the oil dipstick. Perhaps, clean the "thick fluid goob" off the stick and pull it out to check again in a a day or two?

Holly... $37 for a reman starter is a scary low. I personally won't even bother with it since is somewhat a pain to replace the starter.

Thanks Andy. It's so cheaply priced, plain curiosity is getting the best of me.
I'm thinking I'll get it and keep my core to have that rebuilt. I don't know.

hi everyone, question about mirrors/covers.. Bought my FX a few months ago with a damaged mirror, and have been afraid to touch it til it warms up outside (afraid it'll crack in the cold - i know how expensive these are with the cameras..)

Has anyone removed their mirror covers and know where the clips are? Should I even bother with removing it or just use something like a credit card to slide into the gap and work it back into place?

Appreciate any suggestions!

What is the difference between "shortest time and shortest distance" on the OEM navigation unit?
I'm thinking one avoids highways, I guess....

If you look at the 5th picture on this ebay listing, you'll get the idea how to remove the cover. In your case, removing the cover will probably easier to refinish the black scraped up mirror part.
