The Random Question Thread

That's a mild case given the mileage you clocked. You're using factory air box with stock filter? Mine would look like that in about 10k miles.

197k miles and I've never cleaned the throttle body. I was expecting it to be pretty dirty, but it doesn't look too bad.
For you guys that dig in here from time to time, is this mild, medium, or heavy dirt?

Most of the car's early life was OEM paper. Then plenty of miles on both Pop Charger (winter) and K&N drop in (summer). I don't have the common symptoms of TB/MAF fouling - Idle and start up has always been fine. I'm trying to see where my oil is disappearing.
With no plenum to clean on the VK's, does the intake manifold need to be cleaned out?

Thanks. It does look nice and straightforward. Since it's never been off, I just don't like to fuss with it unnecessarily.

Since 90% of the intake is already off the car, I would just unplug the TB electrical connector, the 4 Allen bolts, and give it a nice wipe down with come brake cleaner aerosol.
Intake manifold, I doubt there any anything worth the hassles to open it up for cleaning.

You may want to try a heavier weight oil. I know Shell Rotella T6 helps mine, but the my bottom of my engine block is damp with oil... So I kinda know where some of my oil went.

I'll give it a thorough wipe down. Thanks Andy!
I am trying different oils out too. I hoped Mobile 1 would help, but I didn't notice anything. I'll try the regular Rotella and then try the T6.
I just hope my heads and gaskets are fine and my oil and water are staying where they are supposed to.

You can do an oil test from Blackstone Labs and they will tell you if you have moisture or coolant in the oil.

Probably leaking oil pan gasket. Or something leaking oil and it ends up on the oil pan as that's the lowest spot. Tahoe is the same way. Every time I'd change the oil I'd find some on the pan. I think that appeared to be coming from the oil filter though.

Alright.. Because this is what is happening with mine, lol and it's exactly how you described.. Not sure if it's the oil filter or the oil pan/drain plug

I purchased tires and replaced my recently punctured rear drivers side and replaced rear passenger tires. I was running the donut spare tire for 3 days since my tires were yet on order at the time.

Now mounted and driven for about 80 miles still the TPMS has not "waken" up and reads **. Dash shows low tire pressure warning. Any suggestions to reset without programming?

This never happened on previous tire changes.

Hmm, not sure what else to do other then reprogramming the sensor. Unless its coincidental that the battery went out on you? How old is the TMPS senor?

Thanks for the reply Andy. TPMS is about 4 years old. The stock that I had was sold along with the OEM wheels.

Thanks Stu. I think that will be my next step as I monitor the next 3k miles. I just changed the oil and some water came out - first time this has happened. Would Blackstone be able to tell if a water contaminant is coolant or moisture?

Does our car have auto dimming side windows?

But if you're looking through the auto-dimming rear view mirror, it looks like the back window dims!
