I see BLUE!!!!

To take off the whole cluster from the dash (out of the car) is that what you're asking? If it is, try the followings:
1) Fully extend and lower the steering wheel, so you get get to the three snaps that attach the fabric to the back of the cluster.
2) Fully extend and raise the steering wheel and start with undo the three phillips screws around the collar of the steering wheel.
3) Squeeze the upper and lower section of the collar to separate them.
4) Once the collar are separated, you need to remove the turn signal and wiper stalks
5) To remove the stalks, squeeze the white tabs (top & bottom) and pull the stalk of it seat.
6) Now look under the cluster and undo four 10 mm bolts. Two on each side of the cluster. They're hidden pretty well.
7) Once the cluster is loose, reach to the back of the cluster and unplug the bigger white connector and lift the cluster off the dash.

There could be a better way, but this is how I been taking it out.

Yeah not too difficult, the 10mm bolts are semi hidden but are accessible. You may have to go thru a panel to get to them but there are access holes available to get to them.

Not sure if these are right, but check it out...

http://www.solidapollo.com/blue-led-strip/

They are just LED strips. I don't know if they can be used in this application.

Nope each LED needs to be solded individualy. At the gauge cluster i eventually did not use the Blue foil. Only downside to the whole thing....wich i don't care about but depend how anal you are or not.......is that when the sun hits the cluster directly you will see the orange wich is inside the gauge panels. The only concerns the +06 cluster as for the Pre you can sand it off carefully.
Please read the whole tread and you will find all the intell needed to do this

Greeeaaatt i was in the process cant fine the led for the console can u give me the guy name in texas ill ship him my parts this is a great excellent job man really good !!

---------- Post Merged at 07:26 PM ---------- Previous Post was at 07:21 PM ----------

got my confirmation email today from farnell! originally i was going to order from them, but, i had to confirm my payment and order before it calculated delivery charges... i cancelled just in case they wanted $20 and it was too late to do anything about it - considering that on another site that supplied leds from them, the plcc's were cheaper but farnell wanted a $20 handling charge.....

either way, i couldn't find the exact ones anywhere else, so i went thru them. hopefully the cluster will be (re)done next week and in the FX. everything else is done already minus a couple odds and ends: clock, key ring, headlight adjustment switch.

EDIT: i bought 50 of the cluster LEDs so i should have some left over afterwards if anyone may be interested in swapping a few out to see if they like the look or not. i believe it takes 31 to complete all 4 gauges.

Hey im looking for the led size for the cluster and center console where to order them i know the screen and the cluster are the same but for the center console they change anyhelp ??

Look at page 8 of this tread. In one of my post you will find a PDF file wich could probably help you out. Good luck...!!

Is it easy to switch those leds?

Depends how comfortable you are with soldering. If this is your first time , might be difficult because the leds are pretty small. Might be best to practice a bit on an old circuit board to develop your technique

Really amazing to take on & complete a project like that with excellent results.

Makes me me wanna convert my door switches to blue.

So anyone willing to do this for $$? lol

I wouldnt mind paying someone for it. I think I can do it but it'll probably take me a year to find the time for this project.

I would love to do just cool white. I think would look great!

This thread is exactly what I want to do with mine. I did this in my 99 maxima which looked a tad easier, looks like its going to be a lot of work.

Honestly all the research in what leds were needed in spec and ilumination took me and my friends most of the work. In this thread you will find a excell file with all the specs. Cluster is a pain but the radio is easy if you can dolder a bit. I left it to my friend who had more experiance in that. I'm just to insecure with these things but often do all the research ordering and funding of it all ;-)

I appreciate that it was posted, I'll definitely at least attempt doing it myself Ill most likely start with the doors. The Cluster will be last.. thats something I didnt even attempt on the Max...

Sorry to pull up this old thread back but I have taken a recent interest in swapping out the bulbs as well...this write up seems very intimidating not going to lie. Anyway reading this whole thing it seems like everyone decided to get this done professionally? is that correct or does it seem possible at home?

Also; does anyone know a place to get it done professionally in the NY/NJ area if it can't be done at home?

(again sorry for bringing this thread up again :eek.: )

Are you planning on just doing the bulbs or also the LED's ?? The Led are a bit more of a hassle so you would need someone with good solding skills. The doors contain led as well. If you would start with those first there is not much there can go wrong there and you can pratice a bit. It all about welding the right cathode and anode....plus and minus.....we often had to check and put power on it and sometime had to take it out again cause we soldered it the wrong way.....so in the end its all about having the skills and time i gues. Professionally would cost you quite some houres unless you drop off al the parts....save them a lot of labour.

To be honest all I want to do is change the color from the amber to either white or blue. And yeah I am decent at soldering and welding so I guess I can handle the door first.
