I see BLUE!!!!

i think it's an 05 but im not exactly sure on the year of his. it is definitely the older style cluster - not LED backlit.

Then it's still very hard for the +06 cluster to do it like that as we still can not remove the film from the plastic cluster parts...... or we really nee dto start cutting....

i wanted to contact the calkan guys to see if i could get an extra set of faces or at least pick their brains a bit to see if they could be separated without damaging.

it seems like you could bake them.....but i'm not about to try that just to try. maybe i'll try to give them a call again. i wish i had an email over there for them. the only thing that i've gotten from 2 different reps was their address and phone number.

oh well. it continues lol. it's only been 14 months that i've been attempting to complete this. what's a few more weeks?

thanks raymond.

Update on Blue '06 Cluster

Ok it took me a while but i finally had to time to look into this further.
I ordered some extra leds last week to see the both options i had in mind.

First was the one i showed you guys with the blue film over the cauges as it just isn't possible to take out the orange IMO......but maybe i am just to lazy as well. The film showed me that it was possible to get a blue color true the orange. So i exchanged the Orange leds behind the Rev ( LEFT ) cauge with White onces to light up the film as much as possible.

Second option was to use the Blue PLCC-4 leds i used at my current cluster and see what happens, wich i put on the RIGHT side where the speedo is.

First of all i have to give you guys this info in advance before showing the pics. IMO the reason why the +'06 cluster needs an extra ignition power is because i believe it is lit during daytime as well, and dims when you put the light on. I believe the old pre '06 cluster doesn't do that. It's just off and comes on when you put your lights on.
Therefore the up '06 cluster is much brighter to look at and is the main difference in light / color between the old and the new one.

It was very hard to make good pictures wich show you the exact side i see in reality. Often colors and light strenght change on a picture.
Therefore some of you might choose the left side compared to the right, but in reality i think the right side is better.
There you see the illumination is better and keep in mind i didn't change the KM leds in the inner circle so therefore you still see some white/orange color.
The left is approx the same as the pre '06 custer and doesn't stick out that much. On the pic you see the color blue well, in reality you don't. The blue leds are much brighter and the blue film just holds back too much light. Maybe if you used a higher luminus intensity but i doubt it.
Oke some of you would even notice the combo of white and blue on the right cauge, but that just isn't possible to do IMO. And because the left cauge hasn't have an inner circle it just would be to weird having only a white/blue combo at one cauge only.

I've ordered 45 PLCC-4 leds from www.farnell.com with the part number 1058434 , the same i used in m "old" cluster.

Will finish this up probably end this week and keep you all up to date.

Here some pics:

hmmm. looking good so far. i may have to swap out my white leds with some blue and cover the gauges to check it out. what luminosity did you order for your leds?

also, it's been awhile since i switched, but, i thought that the gauges were backlit with plcc-2s and the odometer were the only plcc-4s on the board.... could be wrong but just wondering.

thanks guys..!!

the blue leds i use are 250 MCD. There aren't much leds in blue wich have higher MCD. Farnell also has leds with sort of a bulb on top wich have even higher MCD but i think they won't fit.
But i also don't think you need to go higher.

Till now we only found PLCC-4....sure don't hope we overlooked them otherwise i can order some extra :err:

We'll see saterday

Final Pics

Ok i finally finished this thing. It were all the PLCC-4 leds i mentioned before. So ChiFx no PlCC-2's.
Took the film off and only went for the leds wich look great to me. Can't say what the color will do if you decide to use other colored leds as the "Orange" is still there. So for example when wanting to go for White you probably can't do that.
Blue is fine though, and for you +06 owners this probably isn't newbut i really like the way the Cluster is lit when not having your lights on. So you see the blue during daytime as well. When you put the lights on the Leds dime more so they become approx the same luminous as the rest of the interior lightning.

Here some final pics i made in and outside the shop. The brighter pics are still without the Needles the daytime pics are with but with the lights of so this is how they look like during daytime.

Enjoy and thank you for your attention........RAY OUT

wow! i would've lost a lot of money betting that the cluster would NEVER turn out like that. great job man!!! good news....... it can be done.... bad news... i already swapped out to white lol. looks like i'm ordering some plcc-2, errr um 4's.

congrats man! it looks fantastic.
