2009-2011 Infiniti FX35 Shift Responsiveness Issues (Brand New Update #3)

> Shouldnt this be covered under powertrain and not the bumper to bumper warranty?

Interesting point. I'll argue that when I drop it off. Thanks, again!

Service rep left me a voice mail, "re-flashes are not covered by the power train warranty".

I'm not very pleased with Infiniti that there was a service bulletin that would have improved my car but now I have to pay for it because I wasn't aware until after my warranty expired. Apparently I had to ask first. Next time I bring it in do I need to inquire about any advisories to make it go faster? Get better gas milage? Corner better?

Perhaps I'll argue more tomorrow or write corporate.

I'm due for my next oil change in about two weeks or so. I wish this was available for the 2012 FX. Not that I have any complaints with our transmission but knowing how much better it could be according to you guys makes me jealous.

I mentioned the power train warranty and the re-flash work was free. I have to say I'm very happy with Infiniti of Naperville.

My ECU went from 23710-1CA4A to 23710-1CA4E and my TCU went from 31039-1XJ9A to 31039-X970E. I immediately noticed a huge difference in the car's behavior. Light braking is now smooth and I was pleased to feel there was still some engine braking / rev matching under moderate to heavy braking. The downshift lag after coasting is gone and the car is so much more responsive. I no longer have to go to DS in one of the quick turns I take regularly, the car had already downshifted right when I needed it.

Fire0nic3FX, thanks so much for posting this and the comment about the warranty. Next time you're in Chicago drinks are on me.

Hey Nuts, are you the one I met at the Naperville dealer? I met a guy who was having transmission issues and he said he knew about infinitiscene.

Haha no problem buddy. Im glad your ride is running good and best of all it was free!:good:

Hope this will work in Canada. Cause I've been hearing about this problem but never had a chance to ask at my dealership. Next time I'm there for an oil change I'm bringing papers :smile (2):

Hi Fire0nic3FX, I got my 2010 fx35 a few months ago and experienced the same responsive issues (hesitation in acceleration driving 40+ mph ) as everyone complained. I took it to the dealer to do the reflash of ECM and TCM, however, the problem still existed. I am glad that you guys had it fixed but wondered if anyone still had the same problem after they have done the reprogram. Thanks very much.

It is the same one you posted here. ITB12-064. And I went to two different dealers, they all claim that mine has the latest software. I don't understand this tsb seems to fix most of the cars but mine is not one of them.

i just got my 09 fx35 and I want to take it in cause I do feel a slight lag in acceleration and I get harsh shifts, very noticeable, im just worried the dealership will try to say they dont feel nothing or give me a hard time. So im wondering do I tell them the TSB# for it and tell them I know there is an update and would like it done, by the way is the TSB# this ITB12064?

Since it's an ITB they don't have to do the work if they can't confirm the issue; per dealer rep. You could just say a friend of yours had the same issue and was fixed by this ITB. Key things to say are lag on acceleration, harsh downshifting when breaking and lurching before a complete stop.

Do as PMG 705 says and you should be fine. I didn't have to argue with my dealership but I did bring a print out of ITB12-064a. Don't worry it lists the 3.7 liter engine in the ITB, it applies to our 3.5 L as well.

(By the way, I read your nickname too fast as "ThunderMonkey" and it made me chuckle.)

Ok that sounds good, I'm going to give them a call here soon as I get time off of work. Hopefully they're not rude I've been to a few dealerships where I had bad service I'm sure most people can relate lol.

I still feel the jerks during downshift on my 2010 FX35 AWD even after this TSB. I am thinking about contacting better business bureau or small claims court. Don't want to deal with after warranty support through the dealer.
Hi Jaguar2010,

I noticed you had ecm and tcm updated but still experienced the harsh downshift. I have the same problems here too. Did you finally get the problem fixed? I talked to the Infiniti consumer affairs, but had no luck so far.

so i went to my local infiniti dealership about this bulletin and they found it and all. They asked how many miles i have on my FX35, it has 66k its an 09 and they said my warranty is out and thatll ill have to pay to get the work done, he quoted me $105. Now to me it doesnt seem right that i should have to pay for this service bulletin? i was under the assumption that when there is a service bulletin the work should be covered by infiniti since its kind of there mistake that theyre fixing, or am i wrong? i dont mind paying but at the same time i dont want to get took for my money.

oh on a sidenote they were asking me about the gas i put in it, which i put premium and they were telling me that i should be putting shell or phillips 66 not too much of the circle k or 7-11 stuff. what is your guys take on that?

Techincal service bulletins are only covered under warranty. Anything outside of warranty is not covered and if it was it would have to be a goodwill repair under the dealership.

The only thing covered outside of warranty is recalls which are safety issues. Since those are safety issues they are covered no matter what. An example would be something like an airbag defect. Now a technical service bulletin is only a defect notice that doesnt need to be honered by the manufacturer.

oh ok thanks for clearing that up, well either way im gonna see about getting this done hopefully next week. i will post back any difference i notice.

The only issue I have is the acceleration lag that ive noticed ever since ive had the car. Hopefully this is enough for me to get the ECU/TCU updates at the dealership. I'd even be willing to pay for it if they tell me no, that's how bad this issue has been for me.
