VK45 –Stage 1 Headers/JWT cams/TB/intake

Charles was really excited regarding delivery. He had a Titan owner (and a potential FX owner) at his shop during the button up and first ignition and said they were going nuts and would both like to do the same build.....

So the FX starts up with a woof again (it didn't do this with the Nismo alone) but it's shorter and more definitive than it was with the Invidia, more of a bark =). At idle its surprisingly quiet but emits a nice rumble and the lope is evident, total V8 emission.
Up to 2-3K it is still moderate with no drone then between 3,500 and 4K (when pushed) it wakes up and the sound gets much more radical, to the point where you wonder what's under the hood. Charles thinks the unique sound is a combination of the long tubes AND the CAM's as it is not just one or the other. Also the HFC's won't be available until January so he ran it straight from the headers to the Nismo, I am amazed how Jekyll and Hyde it is, if you don't push the engine it just sound a bit more......unique. The HFC's will definitely take the edge and make it more stealth but I'm fine running it like this for awhile to see how it breaks in. really it is surprisingly mellow........but I only drove it a few blocks so I'll hold off on any major reports for the time being.

Power has yet to be determined, there is a break in period but it has much more pull even at half throttle. When I get back I'll log some miles and then get it Re-tuned, it should smooth out and we'l see what everything adds up to. No lights yet BTW......

Holly Sh!t Lance. Congrats on the build. You know we'll all waiting to hear you report back. Nice that you get to drive it before taking off to HK. Have safe trip.

I've heard road trips to Portland are great for breaking in cams...Hah, on my way!

Sounds like everything is comming together Lance, can't wait for more updates and a video!

Thanks boss.

That engine is toooooo doope
should look pretty good when it is done.

What a tease no photos or videos. Did they fix the injen intake brackets?
Bracket work looks amazing, INJEN should take me up on the modeling for this.....

Thanks Doc!

Sitting in the lounge waiting for the flight now with a bit more time to describe the morning start up. Cold start - Quite a bit different than the warm start up I heard last night. Start up is a distinct angry sharp growl (It is very cool) that has very short duration and rolls into a lope that has more to do with A/F than the cams....Tune needed. there is also a very light tinney sound somewhere (a heat shield or something I bet and an easy fix. Car drops down to 600 RPM and gets too close to stall...tune needed. The HFC's are needed for the mellow factor BUT the rev sound is freakishly cool.

A few dial in issues but it runs and seems to run well enough for the moment.

An engine pic -

thin wall headers can have a little tinny ping to them because of the thin wall, especially with a lopey idle & high compression, you can almost hear each pulse of the exhaust through them at idle, almost sounding like it's tapping on each pipe... I love that sound :smile (2): not sure if that's what your talking about though, might just be a heat shield rattling somewhere too I guess :tongue (2):

if it's not too loud at idle all the way to 3k that's awesome... the cats should take a bit of the edge off up top... can't wait to hear a hairy sounding FX :top:

dayum lance you making me miss my 45!!!! you are taking great strides to making that beast come alive... when u get back from hong kong i wanna check it out...

Just got in and all lagged out. Did this with the iphone, its a cold start up after one week of sitting. Sorry for the crap recording, not even a decent teaser really.......give me a day to dial this in you have to hear the rev its is pretty wild. Honestly its not that loud it, just sounds slick.......
