What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

so Yellow will brighten up the ground more during the rain? i have that issue atm. dry roads, it like day time infront of me. when the road is wet, can't see anything
during the rain it is golden yellow. very bright. regular nights is also bright too but you don't really see the deep yellow.

Nice ..... Mine turned more yellow than green as time went on.

Mine never turned green on me. if anything, it gets more yellow. I love the first start up of the 3000k. It starts up with a hint of white-ish blue then turns to yellow.

I think all temps do, but 3000K is the color that cuts through rain, sleet, snow.

That's a myth. Yellow light is not more visible to the eye, nor does it have any ability to not reflect off of water.

so the yellow is just for looks? <I've never been a fan>

I thought that was why the old mercedes benz would have yellow fogs to show the road better for foggy conditions.

Fog lights are also a myth from what I've heard, I think.

I don't think so

Fog lights are low-mounted lights (bumper level or below) that project light that's cut off at the top. So the light pattern on a good-quality fog light goes straight out at bumper level and down, but not higher than that. The reason for this is that fog tends to hover about 12 to 18 inches off the ground. So by projecting light in that fog-free pocket, you can illuminate the road a greater distance from your car and therefore see farther ahead.

Yeah, so the idea of "cutting through the fog" is not true. It's just going under the fog. Not that it will matter as much if there's still fog in front of you, but at least the light gets projected farther. It could have been that I read that yellow fogs are no better, as I can't remember for sure.

Also, I believe a shade of green is the most visible color to the human eye.

To yellow or not to yellow? There's a lot of debate about this, but the research says that yellow lights are no better than white lights at penetrating fog. The theory bandied about was that yellow light has a longer wavelength and is therefore less likely to be reflected by the fog particles. Turns out, this is complete poppycock. Apparently, the fog particles themselves are so big that they reflect all colors of light. Basically, all light bounces off of them, so using yellow light instead of white light gives you no advantage. Plus, in order to get yellow light, what fog-light manufacturers do is put a yellow lens over a white light. That cuts your light output by 20 percent to 30 percent, which is counterproductive. So if you live in a coastal area where fog is a real problem and you want to give fog lights a try, we'd suggest a set of high-quality, white fog lights that are professionally mounted to be sure they're aimed correctly.

Thanks Tim! had no idea and all these years I thought there was a reason for the yellows.

yeah and then you'll get pulled over lol. :)

I thought:
3000K was the color to cut through rain, sleet, snow
~4500K was the light that emits the farthest
6000K is the most popular aftermarket bulb option
and the rest are just aesthetics..?

Edit: Interesting.. well I still like my fogs lol especially when they have a hint of green.

Leave it to the Germans to think they are correct no matter what anyone says.

lumens is what emits light...you can have a 5000k bulb that has significant variance in lumens. Even bulbs with samw wattage can have big lumens differences. If you want most bright, get the osrams. Aaron had mentioned the lumens on those bad boys.

You got lots of links above showing the yellow don't cut through anything.

I think the bluer type bulbs used to be most popular....now it's becoming the pure white or the yellows.....kind of like how chrome was huge and now black is the way to go (in general of course)..

i still think 3000k is a good setup. its not like i am driving in fog most of the day. I drive a company e250 for 12-14 hrs a day with those crappy headlights that are "sealed beam" style. I wanted to throw in HIDs lol

From what I've been led to believe, the yellow is just for eye strain. Bright white will fatigue the eyes quicker especially in a driving rain or fog and everything is reflecting back at you brightly. Yellow is a bit less harsh on your eyes for prolonged driving in reflective conditions and shows more contrast

Can they slot the holes in your braces as well? Or was it so much that there's not enough room on the braces?

-2.3 isn't that bad. I was at ~-2 for 2 years and have been at -2.6 for 9 months or so. If I ever get wider wheels, it may go to -3. I think that's about as far as they can go without camber arms.
