VK45 –Stage 1 Headers/JWT cams/TB/intake

God, I can't remember the last time I checked it to see the progress. I've been out of the country for a while and finally back at least in the States. Glad to see the car's running properly and headed in the right direction. Congrats.

Hey Kieran! Welcome homes.....where were you?

It is running well, wish you could take it for a spin. Two more things on the immediate agenda and another tune soon.

I was working in Guadalajara, Mexico for 2 months on/off and then 6 months full time. I'm in Orlando for 3-4 months and then back home in time for the new suspension on the track car :) Wish I could take your FX for a spin too... who knows when my company will send me out that way but I'll keep you in mind if and when they do. I need to get rid of the cobwebs re: my driving abilities since I didn't do much driving on the track last year and will be driving my own car this year.... so playing with my own money :/

I hear you in terms of the exhaust. My FX is borderline (for me) in terms of a daily driver with the Nismo exhaust. I've always been the "just turn the radio up" kind of guy but sometimes I don't want to. And two weeks ago when I was home driving my friend's Titan with a Banks exhaust around.... that got annoying around town.

Nice can't wait to see your updated dyno results Lance. I got few more things lined up for next week and will have the car re-tuned by a world renowned tuner this time on a different dyno. His name is Frank Smith and after speaking to him looks like I will be gaining serious hp and torque. Here is a little profile about him: http://www.tuningtechfs.com/about-us.html. I hope your'e still holding the soup line for me!

Sweet Lance! Nice gains

Good to see you Kieran! PM works much better here for me here than on the org. That site dumps all my stuff for some reason.
& We need more trackers on the site.

wow I just read all 53 pages and I must say I really thought the gains would be much higher but still impressive non the less
I really like the craftsmanship on those headers.

I cannot believe the amount of crap you had to go through but congrats on getting your ride back.

Nice power gains there Lance. Your ride belongs on the top 5 list of the most desirable FX in iS!

Welcome back Kieran. I used to see you very active then in the org back in the days.

Hey Kieran,

Been on the phone too much needed some laptop time for a proper response......Never been to Guadalajara, was interesting? If you can set up a Seattle trip summer is the goods, August almost always being the prime cut.

Your Nismo sound can be slightly tuned down with the small SS res can I installed (on my system it's negligible due to the headers and HFC's) but it would cut the sound perfectly and not lose any power due to its near muffler placement. I get you on the sound, I blew out a G37 getting the freeway the other day in a two into one lane situation and surprised him, I'm sure but the sound coming off my car surprised him as well. Granted Its an awesome exotic sound but I've always been more of a sleeper car guy. It's a trade off with the FX to the squeeze the power its what I had to do.

I also thought the immediate gains would better, like north of 300 but it was as the story goes quite the s**t show. Slowly with a competent tuner and without additional work its much closer to that number. Not that I wanted to deal with melted cells in the HFCs (created by some wild assed fuel rich tuning) BUT if that is an issue as the tuner and the builder have surmised, and there is a blockage I'm hoping there is some extra juice to be found in the flow. Maybe better gains an even smoother ride and I still need to get my TB tuned in......

Guadalajara was awesome. I speak no Spanish but I made due and really enjoyed my time there. Going back next weekend actually to visit. I was in Seattle probably around 2006 or 2007. Was in July. I was visiting Portland and was there a day early so I drove up to Seattle to check it out. I enjoyed both cities.

Honestly, I don't have the time or patience to dick around with anything on the FX. Most of the time I'm ok with the exhaust but SOMETIMES it pisses me off. Not THAT big of a deal. I have so much work to do on the track car coming up that I don't feel like dicking with anything else.

There are days when I'd take the big mod cash back and others when I get to work or home and I'm still smiling from the ride. If you are still getting it done on the track well, color me jealous!

Lancelot, thought you might like seeing this. The guy who tuned my FX has a Titan and made his own headers for it. Guessing you got similar gains.

Stulax - was the dude PRT in Lewisville? Hes been working on building a set of nismo clones with some tweaks for almost 2 years its ridiculous. There was a group buy on Titantalk and a few people have pulled out because he was taking forever (me included). Broken promise after broken promise. I know he's finally completed a set and they look pretty good with solid gains over the original design. Couple of the titan guys have had good results with his tuning.

Yeah, that's Steve. I think the problem with him is he has way too many projects going at once to get anything done quickly. I remember seeing his jig and stuff when I've been out there.

OMG I want my FX45 to sound exactly like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn, YT won't let me load vid #2......Much thanks to friend Nick for helping with the shoot. His iphone was nearly dead =)

Logan, it's been a while. So is it true that when heads are ported, you lose MPG's by a good bit? I know when you install cams depending on how big the duration it will take away your low end power. The whole benefit of cams is to shift your powerband higher. Since I have fairly high compression as is, going with higher compression pistons would result in possibly having to run a higher octane gas to take full potential of added compression?
