VK45 –Stage 1 Headers/JWT cams/TB/intake

there are a lot of luxuries in life that cost a lot

having a cam'd out 4.5L V8 FX with headers & other breathing & tranny mods may cost a lot, but that's why no one has one too, so in some ways a cam'd out 4.5L FX with headers & modded up nicely may be priceless to it's proud & happy owner... it's all relative, I've seen more cash spend on a nice watch. it's all relative & a mater of what you enjoy. if it's worth it to you & you can afford it is all that matters I think, there are a lot of worse ways to spend it :)

If I had the 45, I'd probably be doing the same mods. Lance's mods are all done tastefully and the cams/headers will be no diff...love the idea of reliable NA power. The only reason I'm not driving the 45 is because I couldn't find a used one I wanted so jst settled on a good used 35. Now, I'll probably be spending $$$ on FI nxt year to make it as fast as a 45....

I never understand the idea of buying an expensive watch, unless it's just to get something nice for yourself or to appear opulent to others. At the end of the day, it still just tells you the time. Granted, I'm someone who doesn't even wear a watch.

Watches are an interesting generational shift. Seems like most of the 0-35's use their phones to track the time.

Man, I wish I can go down this road with you Lance. Maybe this time next year can do this might even consider driving to your neck of the woods to do it.

^ I am curious to see how it plays out on a variety of levels but the shop and the specific tech I have found is perfect. Off the grid (no big over head super fancy style place) racing shop that primarily does work on Porsche's with a super talented tech that completely geeks out on Nissans/inifiniti's. GREAT combination.

Hah, it may be well worth the drive AND you can see the beautiful Pacific Northwest =)

Reading through this thread and seeing some of the genuine interest in getting something done for the V8 platform is exciting to see.

For those who just seem to have an opinion of what is worth the time or not to venture into this new area is irrelevant if they do not have the resources to get this done.

When Jeff and Viet started this site, it was their goal to make sure that all of the efforts of anyone trying to make strides to better our rides should have a platform to share their ideas and resources to make it happen. This site was not made to give people the idea tha spending over 30,000 on a custom TT Upgrade for an xuv and especially, some outside of this forum, to a family vehicle would be considered reasonable or worth it.

No, on the contrary, everyone accepted it and encouraged it. This was especially the case and it was much more easier to get this done because there were allot of pioneers in the 350 and G family getting the results that we have grown to expect. Nevertheless Viet was just not happy to be part of the pack. Only a few of us know the amount of ridiculous money he has spent in getting his ride where it is today..... It did not get to the point now where no one can stand side by side with his ride at any track or show in the xuv market. Yet, allot of other members at other sites and outside of our community told him that this was not worth it and the he was crazy to put that much money into the FX

Only a few know this but I have gone through 2 blown engines and a failed Titan conversion and have lost time and alot, alot, alot of money to try to get to the holy grail of FI for the VK platform. In many cases I get professionals who tell me:"man I am sorry but there is nothing that I can see that will get you to where you want to get to. Plus your ride will probably be phased out over time and might not be worth the trouble. If you really want this just leave me your CC and I'll try to do something for you but it will all have to custom and it will cost you allot more". When I hear this and see my pocket get lighter and not get the results so in turn I can share it with my fellow VK brothers pissed me off. Especially when our fellow members give erroneous opinions of what is deemed worth the time to pioneer at leas some of the core components to maybe in the future bridge the gap to get us in the FI territory.

I think all of you get my point. Either support or provide motivating direction to our fellow members who aspire to develop some sort of progress for the VK platform or just keep it to your self.

What better place to share any type of progress for this platform than here.

Did JWT tell you how it will sound, or maybe there are YouTube vids of the cams in a different vehicle with the 5.6?

As a matter of fact Ed "master of research" shared a titen sound clip running s2 cams and it sounded very nice no before and after but there may have been a slight (but pleasing) lope.....I'll dig it up.

+1 the inside of the bay is quite different from the titan config. In the case of the 06+ 45 the passenger side looks to be relatively easy where the steering gear is going to make the driver side install considerably harder...

Well, I know under the hood would be significantly different but I was talking more along the lines of shorty headers that would bolt to the factory y-pipes. I've never looked under the hood of an FX35/45 (only the 50S) so I wasn't sure about clearances. Either way I'm in for any aftermarket upgrades that can be adapted to my engine/platform.

Its touchy, the fabricator I have been working with wants to stretch the length of the tubes as far as possible for maximum flow. Shorties would be less expensive......

That's kind of the problem I'm running into. I can definitely source a fabricator to build the ideal header setup for a particular car, but when it only can be used on 1 platform, the cost begins to outweigh the benefit. I know that shorties would be cheaper but I figured that if they at least could be adapted to the VK45 from the 56 fairly easily they might be adapted to other platforms with far less effort than designing a system for each car and still provide some decent gains.

Excellent input. If there is an opportunity to have a Titan onsite for a fitment check that would be good. I have time on the headers as he is still working on the gt3rs sets.....

Thanks! I do know of one person on another M forum that was attempting VK56 headers on his Y50 M45 but I don't remember exactly how much work was done or if it was completed. I'll see what I can find out.

Purchased my set of JWT CS2 CAM's and springs five minutes ago. Calling the shop now to set up an install date. Ben @ JWT did said that their tech's firmly believe that the 45 will flow better than the 56. Bottom end change over OE will be comparable to the 56 but mid and upper should really improve.
