Transgo Shift Kit Installation

Do the screens actually get dirty? I was planning on cleaning the screen and a drain and fill. I guess I might as well do a full transgo shift kit since I would already be in the area.

After 72K miles, mine was so clean I didn't even look twice at it. And hell yes you should do the shift kit. The death syrup aside, it's a lot of bolts, but not complicated or difficult.

I'm at 98K miles and the screen is very clean. Like Tim said, I don't look twice at it. Go for the shift it. You'll love it.

Just installed this kit yesterday and it feels great. Couple questions tho. For those of you that have this kit, in manual mode it seems to shift harder going from 2nd to 3rd than any other shift point. Anyone else notice this? Also, after I put everything back together, I refilled the tranny flud with about 7 1/2 quarts since that's what came out. But when I checked the fluid afterwards, it was over the full mark. Should I drain some? Or leave it as is? What's the worst that can happen if there's a little too much fluid in there? Thanks guys!

Mine feels like it shifts hardest from 1st into 2nd. Maybe yours will settle in over time...? Are you sure you did all the steps perfectly? Also, that trans fluid dipstick is borderline worthless. I filled mine up like you did (added what came out) and then took it in to the dealer to top it off.

Mine shift harder from 1st into 2nd also. I pour in the same amount as it came out. I have not check the fluid level since :smile (2):

I did everything as written in the transgo instruction booklet except one of the springs, I put the regular colored one in except the white one. It said in the manual you're supposed to put either the white or the regular colored one depending on which transmission you had. The only difference i saw was the length and the white one was a little longer than the regular colored one or the original, and I had a hard time getting either one in, so went with the regular color. During normal shifting, everything is smooth but just when I get on it a little in manual mode it shifts a little harder than the other gears. haven't really redlined as I want to break it in a little more.

That spring choice is based on the shape of one of the valves that you remove during the operation. (That's how you know which transmission you have) Its in the transgo instructions. I can't remember which spring I used...

Wow I had to revisit the pics too, but still can't remember which is which now. Man has it been that long. If you follow the instruction that comes with the kit and follow the instruction as the stock spring match up out of the valve body, replace/use accordingly you should be fine.

Beside the STB, this one mod everyone should do! And it is a very doable DIY if you can take off the front bumper and make headlight cookies :smile (2):

Yeah its not bad at all. Just time consuming. Results r awesome tho. Even during normal driving I feel faster shifts but still smooth as butter! One thing that did bother me during install was, there was one part that said to remove the spring because it was weak. I wanted so bad to put it back, but decided to just follow the instructions. Do u know what part I'm talking about andy?

Honestly I can remember what part you're talking about. I will flip through the instruction again. If you can scan and circle the part in question would be helpful

I think all you needed is some moral support. You can to do it.

:eek.: Ooh my, I didn't realize that spring should have left out. No wonder, I was like what are you talking about ? I when and check the springs & valve that were taken out and that spring is no where in site. So I put it back in :) I also put that back in on Chris (FX45Chicago) when I did his too. Tim, did you leave that spring out?

No ill effect since installation with that spring in.

I'll check my plastic baggie filing system after dinner. I can't remember off hand...

Haha...but I'm wondering if it's better off with it in! Tried driving it a bit harder today and when I'm on full throttle and shifting towards redline, the shift is nice and quick. Nothing hard or rough about it. Im noticing it's just when I half throttle it and in manual mode...so Im not gonna stress about it anymore...for now. Haha. I'd hate to go back in and open it up again. In auto the shifts are quick and smooth. Anyway thanks for your input and help with all of this!
