Transgo Shift Kit Installation

This is def one of the best DIY, i would be scared of messing with my FX and screwing everything up lol.

After talking with him, he said he just wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into. He said he doesnt get too many Infiniti owners that want a shift kit, mostly Titans, and other trucks. He did tell me there are many positives in getting a shift kit (performance, reliability, etc) and the 'consequences' was a shift you can feel .

I dont feel like doing this myself, so it will cost me $800 for parts, labor (day and 1/2) and fluids. Very tempting indeed, but I would have to do it on the down low since we have a new baby. :ninja:

I would never suggest it, but if you pulled a couple spark plugs it would run poorly and need to go in for repair. :ninja:

Dude, that's straight up diabolical. I'd suggest something a little less detrimental though, like pulling a coil pack. You wouldn't want a mixture of fuel and air that's perfect for combustion spraying out of your spark plug cavity... :eek.:

$800 for parts and labor is not so bad ($300 in parts) at. If you do it yourself, you will have the $500 to spend on baby stuffs. I start on Friday night, spend about 2 hours to drain, taking the pan off and then take the valve body out. Spend another two hours early Saturday morning to take apart the valve body and install the kit. Lastly, early Sunday morning, spend another two hours to put the valve body back in, re-install the pan and refill with fresh fluid. There, you just save yourself $500.

I stand corrected. I meant wires.

The write up is so thorough I will be considering it. Looks like a fun one to do. I think the biggest DIY challenge might be having the time and space to approach and complete with meticulous detail.

It not hard at all. Just takes time and messy with the fluid dripping down on you. Again, I think most afraid to touch it is because the VB is an expensive part if something goes wrong. Just double check your work and organize the bolts as you taking them out.

Time is scarce nowadays... true dat.

how many quarts of J-matic was used?
did you replace the separator plate? gasket?

It takes 7 quarts. Nothing to replace internally other than the components from the kit. No gasket anywhere. Not even the gasket around the pan surprisingly. The separator plate just one solid piece of metal.
===========================

I just check the trans fluid this evening, it needs another half quart.

Hey laFX35,
Ni ce job...did you use OEM transmission fluid? Or is there something better you used and where did you get it?

Thx for the response Chedman...gonna get this mod done.
Looking at lafx35's videos...seems like it makes a huge difference!!
