Toyo Proxes ST II

10,000 miles on these tires now with minimum wear. They are as quiet as when new. Still impressed with traction and hydroplaning resistance, particularly compared to the RSAs.

This is great to know. I'm looking for something different than the RSAs for my OEM 20s but I am undecided. The RSAs are quiet, which is nice. They do seem a bit stiff though. Knowing that the Toyos are quiet at 10K miles is great. I remember putting Eagle F1s on my G.....they were SO quiet until they got ~7000 miles on them. Then they sounded like monster mudders on a pickup truck.

I also have the 265/50/20 Toyo Proxes II tires. So far (in my limited ownership) I have been impressed.

They ride soooo much smoother than the OEM's. I spoke with the master Infiniti technician at Sewell Infiniti in Dallas, and he said that the OEM Goodyears had a ton of complaints. He said the OEMs were too soft, and would wear out within 15,000 to 20,000 miles, and that there have been a lot of unhappy customers.

He said that only the OEM Goodyears and these new Toyo ProxesII were the only 2 tires that Sewell was 'approved' to put on any new or used Infiniti FX models...

To the actual tire--

Keeping in mind that mine are brand new (I will also try to do updates as I accumulate more mileage), they handle excellent. I have never had any slippage, or and road noise is far superior over the OEM Goodyears. They ride very smooth, and have handled wet surfaces with ease.

Living in Dallas, TX... I obviously haven't tried them on snow. I appreciate the 'aggressive' look to the tires including the tread design as well as the low profile-esque look.

So far, I am very happy that I had the dealer put these on as part of the FX purchase negotiations...

Alright other Proxes ST II owners...have you experienced any steering wheel wobble as a result of these tires? I have been fighting with the steering wheel wobbling side-to-side at higher speeds ever since these tires were installed. The wheels have been balanced 4 times since. I have not yet ruled out the tie-rods but since the problem developed the day the tires were installed (they were installed a month after I bought the car, and the steering was perfect on the 250 mile drive home from the dealer), I am a little concerned the tires might be the cause.

It is possible that there is a manufacturer's defect with the tire. I had a set of Toyo Open Country on my Pathfinder and noticed the car was pulling left. Brought it back to where I purchased it thinking I needed an alignment and the manager told me that when balancing the tires, they noticed that the steel belt inside the tire actually shifted to one side of the tire, thus causing the "pulling" when driving. They replaced all defected tires with brand new ones. I wouldnt rule out the possibility of a couple of bad tires. Demand replacements (they can pro-rate the cost based on tire tread remaining) because you have balanced so many times with no resolution. Customer is always right.... good luck!

Eh, if tie-rods are not the culprit then the issue becomes who do I fight? They were not purchased locally but from an online vendor.

Hmm...guess I could always swap tires with my mom's FX35 to see if the wobble goes away.

I have zero wobble on my STII's, they run very smooth compared to the first proxes version.

Aftermarket rims?
Did you try getting them balanced at a different location?

Stock rims.

The dealer balanced them three times, had them balanced again at another shop the other day. They said Infiniti's balance was way off but the wobble is still there, though not quite as bad.

Do you notice a lot of road feel through the steering wheel? That is one of the first things I noticed after having the STIIs installed and I wonder if it is related to the wobble.

Jack up the front wheel and try to rock your tire outside left and right. If your tire does move quite a bit, then it is possibly the tie-rod. That's what the mechanics taught me when he found the problem.

This is exactly why I always purchase tires from Town Fair Tire. I always get the lowest price online, and they will match it. Plus I purchase the Road Hazard Warranty and if I ever have any issues, my tires are replaced... (I am never left in a situation like you are in right now and I know how frustrating it can be). Good Luck

I've put about 2,500mi on mine, and I don't have any steering wheel wobble. They are still very smooth, and the traction is still excellent (no slips or drifts during weather).

Another thought, what is the optimal PSI setting for these tires on the factory 20s? Mine are usually running between 35-38PSI. Should I be higher or lower?

Getting my Toyo Proxes STII on this afternoon. I will write an update later. BTW, Town Fair Tire... for all 4 tires, mounted/balanced, four wheel alignment, road hazard protection (no questions asked replacements), valve stems... and a reach-around... $806.

OK, so after my first 20 mile drive on these tires I can say that it is a major improvement over the GSA's. They are almost silent (I guess one could expect that from a brand new tire, but they really are quiet), they absorb bumps better for sure, and they stick much better than the Goodyears too. I will continue to update...

There is zero play in the tie-rods/bushings/whatchamacallit.

Guess the only thing left for me to try doing is swapping tires with my mom's FX35. If the wobble goes away (which seems to be getting worse), I have bad tires.:mad:

Should be a fun drive to FL next week, there is no way I can get it taken care of in time.

I'm new to the board but not new when dealing with tire vib problems. I had a Q45 for years and have now moved into an FX35. Anyway, as for your vibration problem, how about merely swapping front to back and rotating them rather than pulling from another vehicle. Maybe worth a shot. If the vib leaves the wheel and enters an entire body shake, you've got tire/wheel issues. I'm almost willing to bet that is the case. I've had high end tires go "egg shaped" after only a few hundred miles. You can actually see it when balanced. Also, tie rod problems can be very very subtle and not move much at all. Wheel hub bearings are another possible issue. I just replaced the left front of my FX. No vibration just the typical howling.

Anyway, good to finally find another home. I was a member of NICOCLUB for years with my Q but there really isn't any support for FX owners anymore. I've been searching for new 20s for my FX and these may be my choice. I was recently leaning towards Kuhmos since they are dirt cheap and have great reviews. Just can't find any lengthy reviews and they don't have any tread warranty at all which is strange.

Well, I'm convinced. Placing an order for a set now... I'll let ya'll know how they do in this record breaking Texas heat.
