Toyo Proxes ST II

After debating for weeks on tires for my FX45, I decided I just was not thrilled with any of the offerings from General, Hankook, Yokohama, etc.; the Continental CrossContact UHPs I had on my FX35 have become too expensive so I decided to try the new Toyo Proxes ST II. It is being heavily advertised as a very quiet, high performance all-season tire. It seems Toyo learned from their mistakes with the Proxes ST.

I think I am the first owner of these tires on the FX forums. I am hoping to have them mounted next week and will keep a running review going as I put miles on them. They have a nice, deep tread pattern, wear rating of 420. Hope they perform as nicely as they look. The price is comparable to the Parada Spec-X and Ventus RH06s in 265/50-20. I paid $660 shipped to my door (included sales tax since I am in SC) from treadepot.com.

I'll be waiting for your review(s) as I'm leaning towards getting a set of Yokohama Paradas myself. I love the Yokohama Geolandars on my 18's, and I figured I'd like Yokohamas on my 20's...
 
Had them installed yesterday. Definitely smoother riding than the RSAs and I notice only a slight decrease in steering response. Of course they are very quiet right now but who knows what they will be like as the tread wears down.

I am hoping for a gusher of a rain to hit my area, I think they will perform well on wet roads.
 
Same as my last post as of now. We did get a heavy rain the other day and the Toyos seem to handle standing water pretty well (as they should considering the four deep channels).

They are still very fresh rubber though, I cannot say much about traction yet.

I am nearing 1,000 miles on the tires. Dry traction actually seems to be pretty good, it is hard to break the tires free when the roads are dry. With the tires inflated to 35 PSI, cornering is far better as is road feel. I think they provide more feedback than the RSAs while still having a slightly better ride.

As for wet traction, I had a little surprise yesterday and ended up fishtailing a bit. I think it has more to do with me still being unfamiliar with the torque of the FX45 on wet roads than the actual tires. Cornering traction is good.

Hydroplaning does not seem to be an issue, they are one of the best tires I have had for cutting through standing water. The main highway here has deep grooves that run parallel to direction of travel and I have not had an issue when it rains. The RSAs were constantly wanting to skim the water's surface rather than cut through.

What other update are you looking for?
 
2,300 miles on them and so far so good. Still quiet, pleased with traction especially on wet roads.

One thing worth mentioning is these tires transfer a lot of road feel to the steering wheel. They are not harsh riding but they definitely allow you to feel the road and its imperfections.

Gjben,

Do you consider these more of like a summer tires? Do they have stiffer sidewall? I like the stiffer sidewall of the oem rsa compared to Yokohama parade spec x.
 
Might end up getting these in a 275/40/20

Cheapest I found so far was $720 shipped... if anybody knows cheaper let me know.

I'll look into my connect tomorrow. Pricing isnt as good as it was 'bout a year ago, but I'll see if the rep I know can beat that.
Oh, & I might be able to work something at SEMA on those. I'll drop by the Toyo booth . . know people
