So finally my buddy Jumbo finished his F/I project and his FX runs great. That was the sign to start my own tread of my F/I project witch I am working on now for over 1,5 years already.
A lot of you already know I am working on something but the whole economic BS set me back quite some and I didn’t want to start a tread when not seeing to end in sight.
I called this tread Ray’s Boost as a thumbs up to my buddy Jumbo as he really helped me a lot with my own project but also want to thank Turbocad for helping me out a lot with advice and all other things….you know what I’m talking about John J
Also rookie must have been getting crazy with all my questions, but hey sorry guys you all seem to be the once with the most knowledge and experience on this forum concerning these projects haha..!!
So my story begins with a client of mine driving a 350Z and purchased a Single Turbonetics kit. He drove with it for a while without issues on a stock engine. But as the guy he is he wanted more and increased the boost pressure each time at the point he got head lift. He then sold his complete shizzle to another guy I knew with a 350Z Drift car. Who wanted to get 500-600 Hp out of it.Rebuild the engine with eagle rods….ARP bolts….ACL bearings etc, bought a GT35R turbo and watercooled intercooler as drift cars don’t make much speed to cool the intercooler that well.
Then he put a KMS stand alone computer on it and a business colleague of he would come by to map the whole deal.
Long story short no good tune and the engine detonated.
He then talked to several guys and wanted to stroke it……sleeve it…..and go all out till he heard the price…!!
He then decided to went the easy and reliable way and put an LS3 corvette engine in the drift car witch still runs great…!!
So that is when I came into the story. When driving for fun and on the street with my FX I saw the potential. I got a good pricing on the whole deal and bought it incl. both turbo’s and a Kinetix intake manifold.
I could have gone for the easy way and put the stock Turbonetics kit on my own engine, but know who I am and would have always doubted how it would run with the GT35R turbo.
So I decided to go all out within my budget in performance and estatics as well.
Bored the short block and put in Low compression 8.8 Wiseco pistons in. The guys before me stayed at High compression and this will decrease turbo lag but will increase change to detonation as they found out J
Here are some pics of the block and progress in the beginning. I painted all parts Matt black with a high temp paint. Not that you would see much of it. But when already having it in my hand I thought I’d might as well take care of it. Ok pics…!!
