Jumbo's Silver FX - 2nd custom build

Well guys - it certainly has been a while. I've been in California now for 14 months and the Silver FX is making slow but steady progress. Is she close to coming home? Not sure. The good news is that the built motor and transmission are in and we have tuned the car enough to know it's already outperforming big red. Faster response, higher horsepower, sexier... why not watch a video on the dyno? Oh, turn your speakers up. This pull is with the exhaust cut-out wide open.

This engine bay shot is incomplete. I have some custom fabrication going on to replace and relocate some reservoirs - which is why I'm not really sure how much longer it will take. Weeks? A month? Two? Who knows - I've given up trying to project manage. A lot less stress when I just let go.

The guys in the shop had a spare set of wheels on the car while they were mounting my new rubber to the stock wheels.

That's all I have for now! Enjoy!

He is alive...!!LOL great news your coming back on track. Tried to open the vid but without any luck. Do you need to have a photobucket account or such ?? Did you ran into trouble with the miata as well ??

Actually yes - I wrecked the Miata coming out of my driveway two months ago - hit by a jeep. Nobody injured. Since that time I bought another black Miata and swapped over everything myself. There are only a few differences - most people would not be able to tell I have a different Miata! That work is complete now so I'm back to where I was before the accident.

You might need to register for photobucket but I did not think that was necessary. Not sure why you cant see the vid.

I saw a picture a couple days ago with those wheels and was like hmm did not know Brad was building a drag car.

Awesome builds man! Sure wish we could do something like this to our 2nd gen 5.0s. But I guess we could if we wanted to invest in a whole lot of custom fab work ;)

Nice numbers you were putting down on the dyno.

Always few and far between, fellas - but we have a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm scheduled to fly into Houston around the Holidays at the end of next month to pick up the car. There was an ECU failure that prompted sending it to Australia for repair, but we have passed that point and are moving on to the finishing touches.

The car got new tires and an all new BC coilover system. The set that was on Big Red took some damage in the wreck and for the cost of replacement parts and rebuilding, it just made sense to buy a whole new set.

The current focus is the passenger side of the bay - we are looking at adding another two catch cans to mirror the driver's side, except these would be modified to replace the power steering fluid reservoir and the coolant overflow reservoir. Pretty cool guy trick if you ask me!

Super-lame photo shop concept:

I can't tell you guys how much I am looking forward to having this car back. It's been out of my life for a year and a half and I seriously miss driving an FX. Can't wait to take the cross-country drive back to Southern California, do some mountain twisties, show her off at weekly cars & coffee... badass "Christmas present" to myself, I think. Oh yeah and the sound system!!! SO EXCITED about it for the first time in a while!
