Gas Gauge Level Fix

Any chance the floater got tangled or stuck that it not resting at the bottom of the tank when you put it back in?

Maybe so. The fuel pump side was fighting me pretty bad but I was to slip it at the end. I wasn't able to pull that pump out of car. But I was able to get it out of the car enough to clean it.

I just filled up and it when to full. Which is normal. Seems you guys all had issues that it never read full, while my issues is it never reads empty anymore. Before or after me cleaning.

I'll play with it when I'm down to to E again.

I had the exact same problem before. AS Andy said the floater is not fully resting at the bottom of the tank, because of the black tube. All you need to take the pump out and reattach/reroute the black tube at fuel pump bottom.

You seem to have the opposite problem, before I do this DIY my gauge was always reading less of what i actually have by roughly a quarter of a tank.

That black tube was an issue. But I had this problem prior to me touching anything. Because I thought this could be my answer. After my clean up it reads exactly the same as before. I'll do it again after my tank goes down.

It reads great from full to half tank. After that all hells goes wild

Yep, you need to unplug the tube and then twist it the way its suppose to be. I ended up with no gas because of that one day.

Yes there is winter/summer blends. Rip off if u ask me. I'm only at half tank now, weather has been nice so I've been on the motorcycle. But car is telling me I have a 400 mile range, that's almost completely bs

I have had this problem ongoing now since I bought my 45. My gauge will jump around, one day it will read 1/2 a tank the next its a 1/4 tank and then back to 1/2. I just did this fix today, however once I got everything put back together and started up my FX the gauge went from reading 1/4 tank to the needle not moving from the pin at all and the gas light coming on. I rechecked the connections and pulled both sides out again to double check everything was correct. Is there something else I need to do to reset the gauge or something?? Please help! Thank You!

Never mind guys, I went back into the fuel pump and checked the connections again by unplugging them all and found a loose connection that I missed. Put it back together fired it up and I now have almost a 1/4 tank more gas and 50 more miles on my DTE!

Great write up!

Thank you for this great write up
Just did this on my FX45. My gauge was reading empty when i had 30+L in the tank.

However after this fix my gauge is going up, but way too much up. It's actually going over that top line and covering the letter F. Is that normal?

i would post a picture but I can't since I don't have 10 posts yet

That's not normal. I would check to make sure the floater is float freely and not impeded by the wire when is it being drop back into the tank.

That would be the one on the passenger side correct? Could it be that I have bent the rod that the floater is sitting on? I didnt use any force to take it out but it was lots of wiggling. Is this considered too high?
