Enable AUX/Video input while driving

I may or may not do this mod but I'm curious to know if just grounding the brake wire will allow the DVD player to play. For instance, wife is driving and stops to run into the store. I'm in the passenger seat and to pass the time, I select DVD player to watch a movie. Instead of climbing over the console to depress the emergency brake, will just grounding the brake wire allow the DVD to be watched? Sorry if this is a hijack but it seems it's related to this mod. Thanks.

BTW, could someone PM me the info regarding the 1st vs the 2nd method? Don't have enough post to PM Saleen. Thanks.

Yes if you are standing still and would like to view the dvd without applying the E-brake, just grounding will work. But once you start rolling it will not allow you to watch as it is sensing speed.

^^^^ You would need to put a switch on the VSS wire and ground the e-brake wire.. I need to get a hold of the service manual for the 2010's as the connectors in the back are different.. I should have it in the next few days and I'll post it up. BTW, doing this will allow you to not only watch DVDs while in motion, but also input commands on your navigation.

Just the DVD unlock: can try what this guy did on the org.. last entry

I have the manual for all 2009-2010. Let me know if you would like me to find the wire for you.

Thanks, but I just got it... Looks like the connector (pin32) is similar, but the wires have changed.. Will re-do this on the weekend..

******************

Did it this weekend without a hitch... The wiring is different for the 2009 and 2010; doesn't make sense to me, but it is. For a 2010 non-nav the wires are located on the connector that is on the oppositte side of the 3 black antenna wires. If you're sitting in the car and facing the front of the AV unit, the plug is on the bottom left of the unit. Cut the red and ground the violet (wire coming from the plug)...
Cheers.

Just a couple quick questions. Might seem really silly but i am a certified electronics n00b.

1. Where is the best place to ground the first wire at? Do I need to buy extra wire to extend the wire after i make the cut or is there a screw close by?

2. So with the VSS wire i just make the cut close to the connector, then attach a switch to both ends of that cut wire right? (With extra length of wire of course to place the switch more conveniently)

3. Where is the best place to put the VSS switch at? I know its personal preference, but i'd like to see where you guys put it and then consider the options.

Sorry to revive this, but can I have that info too?

Thank you so much for such a thorough and clear documentation.

Can I also have the same info? Thanks

I have the 2010 with Nav and Tech. So what is the easiest and safest way if I only want the DVD mod(watch while driving)? My local audio shop agree to do it for $50 if I bring them a printout of the wire harness and instructions. If someone can answer or PM me that would be very much appreciated. Thanks

I printed ur instruction and went with the 2nd method and couldn't be happier since there are more advantages. Thanks for the info, the only problem is the blinking airbag light. But that is a common thing right after this mod right? I'll try the ecu reset later.

I have tried this mod on an 2009 FX50 w/ Nav. and it does not work. It will allow me to view the cameras while moving but it wont allow me to watch a DVD. In fact, now it wont allow me to watch a movie at all in the front even when the car is in park with the brake set.
I tapped into the pink (put on a switch) and violet (grounded) wire from the same connector. I wonder if it uses two VSS inputs? I was going to try and find the other VSS wire and put it on a switch also and see if that works.
Does anyone know if there is another VSS wire is on the two top connectors on the back of the white plasic unit that is on top of the cd player?
I really need a wiring schematic or diagram for those connectors back there...anyone have em??

Hey, rijc99.

Any luck with this for 09+ fx with Nav?
I know there is a bunch of us waiting for help with this.

So the violet wire (2nd in from right) for the 360 camera mod does work on an o9 fx50 with nav?

Yes, it does. It will allow u to operate the Nav and the cameras while driving but won't let you use the Aux input or view a DVD.
I am headed on a long trip tomorrow and want the passenger to be able to watch the DVD that the backseaters are watching.
I am going to try and ground all the violet wires and see what that does?
Dave

^^^ I wouldn't just ground "all the violet wires and see"... At the least you will blow fuses and at the worst will brick your media center. I would get the schematics from infiniti's website and go from there.. There's a one day membership where you can download all the pdfs. Good luck.

Which one did you ground? I posted a picture of the differences between the 09 and the 10 model.

Here it is again.

I did get this pic; and thanks.
I grounded pin 38 (Violet) on this connector and put pin 36 (Red) on a switch. It seems as if everthing is working. It allows me to use the cameras when driving and when I flick the switch back the cameras shut off. So I know it is somewhat working. However, when I try and play a DVD it says "the video will resume when the vehicle stops moving". It does this even when i am parked.
So I think it is getting its information from another source. It is not the GPS, bcause I disconnected the antennas to see and it did the same thing.
I looked at the wiring diagram from the service manual and the only thing I think it can be is the "CAN Communications" wires on pin 52 & 53.
I also tried to disconnect the connections to these wires into the "Unified Meter and A/C Amp" to no avail.
What the heck is this "Unified Meter and A/C Amp" anyways. There is almost no information in the full service manual on it?

Thanks for the help guys,
Dave

When you are parked, press the e-brake in and see if the dvd works.

I tried that. no deal. I cant watch a dvd at all now.
Like I said I already grounded the connector side of the violet pin 36.
However, shouldnt the "brake" light be illuminated in the dash? I wonder if I need to ground in at the parking brake switch?

What side of the violet pin did you ground? The part thats leading into the Unit or Away. Its really sounding like you have a bad ground.

No, the brake light is not suppose to be on all the time.

Edit: im a little confused becuase this mod will not allow the cameras to work while driving....

I grounded the connector side that plugs into the AV Control Unit; not the side that goes into the dash somewhere.

Here is your plug.
