cold start problems

Has this problem been addressed to Infiniti?
By now, there should be a recall, TSB or something since we are all having the same exact problem.
I'll check with my dealer tomorrow to see if they have a clue.
 
I'm guessing this would be hard to diagnose though, as it seems to be fairly random. Maybe taking a video of it happening would help the case.

This is NOT my video, but it is exactly what mine does randomly (specialy in the morning).

But, but... yesterday, I connected the battery to a slow charger and let it overnight. This morning the battery wasnt completely charged. It started at the first crank and I didnt get the fluctuating rpm.

My guess is that there is some vampiring going on with the AC Amplifier. At least through this thread people who saw this problem and charged or replaced their battery saw this issue return within months. Those who replaced the AC Amplifier never saw the issue again.

I replaced my battery last year thinking it would solve the cold start issue. But the problem came back after a couple of months. Also, the dealer replaced the IPDM controller under warranty (2009) but of course that did not solve the problem. SO..AC Amp it is..
 
So which optima is better for the FX? I see a yellow top and a red top. I know I have to replace my battery pretty soon bc my FX has not started right away on a few cold days and eventually turns on during the second time. I just want to see what battery people recommend and what's best
 
I have a yellow top in mine 45. I had Costco Kirland in the 35 and a few other cars in the family with no cold start problems. They fire right up in Chicago winter months.
 
My battery has been in My FX since I got it brand new in 2008. I think I have gotten a good run out of it considering that I have read on threads some people replacing their batteries after 2-3 years
 
Yeah, you sure did got a good run out of your battery. Time for new battery before it fail. It's just the start the cold season. :wink:
 
same here. mines original and its having a hard time starting in the -12'c weather we just had. time to hit up costco. sucks i got no garage so im lazy to change it
 
The above videos are exactly like my wife's 06 with 99k miles on it. She hates it and I do too when I occasionally drive it and it happens. Happens to her every morning.
 
Hey guys, i had a few issues with the fx this past weekend. It was -4f to -22f here in toronto and my car had a hard time starting. it took several cranks to start. Also my fx couldn't detect the intel key in the mornings. once it warmed up, i had no issues. car started fine, the key was detected.
When i was driving , i had 5 codes pop up. one was p0420, then i forgot the rest. I reset it on unichip and the codes never came back.

The last things i did to the fx was change the battery (kirkland battery with high CA). and a car wash ( bad idea in the cold)

Im thinking of swaping my oem battery back in to test it out but want to see any one experienced this.

Also my dumb fan blower motor squeaks but thats least of my worries right now. prob needs some lube

Change the battery in the key fob before you do anything else. I had very similar problems and it turned out that my key fob battery was the culprit.

EDIT: Also with those kinds of temps are you using the block heater?

no i didn;t use the block heater. i was on vacation to the slopes. i tried both keys i had. both coudn't be detected. BUT when the car been running for a while ( say stop for a washroom break), it will recognize the key.

I found the same thing, when the car was cold it would not recognize the key, and I would have to use the key to open and start the car. But if I just popped into a store and came out the car would start up fine.

Try replacing the key fob battery its easy and may very well fix your problem.

Also I would suggest using the block heater if you have an outlet. It really reduces the stress on the engine when starting cold like that.

I just replaced my AC Amp and noticed the exact same thing as you. Did you ever figure it out?

Nope, I ended up sending it back as it seems like, at least for now, the battery alone is taking care of my problem. ~$350 was just too much money, especially when it was causing other issues. I would assume that the Infiniti dealer could do something to "program" the AC Amp, but then your $350 DIY just turned into big $$$ - plus, I'd assume that finding someone who knows what they're doing in this situation would be difficult - even at an Infiniti dealer. I only plan to keep my FX for another year or year and a half, so hopefully the battery swap keeps it fixed for at least that long.
