cold start problems

Starting seeing this issue this week with my car. Battery was replaced last winter, time to order a AC Amplifier.
 
I'm having the same issue for a second time now.
First time, I replaced the oem battery for an Optima Red Top (not new) and solved the 2x crank start.
Now, it's back, no everyday but it's back.
Thought of getting a brand new battery, but also read about the AC amp.

What's the veredict? Battery or AC amp?

I forgot to mention: Upon start, the rpm gets rough going high and low for 3 - 4 times, then it settles.
 
Mine new one should arrive on Monday and should only take a few minutes to replace. I'll let you know if it solves the issues, but reading through this thread, I'm seeing the exact same issue as stated by others, so I'm hopeful.

I'll do a DIY for it's replacement as well.
 
I am having the same issue. This is new for me this year. Last winter was fine, but I noticed the first COLD morning a few weeks back it did do this. I had the battery tested at good ole Autozone and they said it was good(not sure how accurate they are), but it is the original battery. Is that possible? A good original battery with close to 90K? Suggestions?

Any recommendations on a battery? I heard consumer reports rated the walmart batteries pretty highly.

I've had the Walmart battery in my for a year and a half and it crapped the bed, but they come with a 3 year warranty so I brought it back and gave me a brand new one no questions asked. I've had the new one in my car for over a year and no problems. Not sure about the optima battery warranty or what not but they are quite expensive. For me it was the price and warranty.
 
I had Costco battery in all my cars without any issues. They're reasonable. I have Optima Yellow in my FX45 right now. It came with the car. :smile (2):
 
Funny to see this thread come back, I guess it is getting cold out again.

I have had this happen to me twice now, both in the last month. This never happened last winter when it was -5C or -10C outside, but it is happening now at around the freezing level.

Sounds like I have to bite the bullet and get that AC Amp replaced. I may get a new battery as well given that I am still on the stock battery after 5 years and 100K miles.
 
Wow, you got a real good run with the oem battery. I would change the battery first and hoping that's the problem with yours. I wouldn't jump on the AC Amp replacement after just two cold start hiccups.

You think just replacing the battery will fix the fluttering RPM problem just after start?

I guess there is no harm in trying, Ill do the battery and if the problem comes back then I will know that it is the AC amp.

I suggest just going to a autozone or something and get the battery tested. They'll do it free. No sense in buying a new battery if yours is still in good condition. Just my .02

I'll let you know how it works for me. My battery was tested and fine, and I only get the flutter first thing in the morning. Even if the car sits out in the parking lot all day at work, it still starts up like a champ at the end of the day. Weird problem.
