Any Bike Riders Out There?

I started out as a mountain biker and raced MTB's for a few years through college. Then I stopped riding for a while and started riding on the road a few years back. I'd argue that riding on the road is at least as extreme as riding the trails. I spend most of my time on the road these days on a tri bike and I always feel like I have to pay more attention. Maybe it's because I rode the trails for so long and have been hurt, but crashing out there isn't a big fear anymore. Maybe I'll land a jump wrong or hit a tree, but I don't have this feeling that I'll get seriously injured, the speeds aren't all that high. On a bike, I've never been more terrified than riding on the road on a big downhill while aero at 45-50mph and I get hit by a crosswind. I've had this happen a few times and there is a feeling of absolute terror while the bike is wobbling out of control and I'm trying not to crash. That to me is a much, much worse feeling than being midair after hitting a jump wrong and knowing you're going to crash.

I could never get into road riding I started at as a young kid with bmx and went into mountain bike trail riding, I like it to be extreme when I ride. :good:

I think I'm more likely to get hurt road riding, but I'm more likely to get seriously hurt mountain biking.

Just a pic from today. I was clearing some brush on a hill for a little jump, but there was a thunderstorm that came through and I figured being on an open hill with a shovel was not a good idea.

I'm with you guys thinking that road is more dangerous. Getting hit by a car is way more severe than falling and crashing off a jump. But then MTn gear is much more protective ( knee guard, elbow guard, full face).

I just feel like on a rigid frame and skinny tires I'm more likely to have a minor crash. Throw in having the seat all the way up, wheel brakes, and being clipped in and it gets worse.

I almost broke my neck mountain biking. On Braille, which I assume you know.

Yea. Braille is my fav trail @ demo. On what?

You know how all the jumps have names? I think this was black diamond. It's carved into the end of the wooden plank of the jump. I just remember it as one of the last jumps before the end, maybe a minute or 2 from the bottom. It had a really not smooth landing and I guess I landed too nose wheel heavy. I'm not sure if it was that or I grabbed the front brake because as I was hitting the jump I told myself don't touch the brakes and actually stuck my fingers out straight. I'm guess I could have went to grab the bars as I landed and just squeezed the brake. I'll check my videos to see if I can find the spot. It's right after a set of root drops though.

Yep, it was the one right at 4:40. You can see the kinda pot hole where the landing is, and then the rock shelf that I ended up landing on with my back. That was my first time jumping it also. In fact I hit more jumps on that day that ever before. You can see in this vid I pretty much skip them all.

Got it I remember that one now. It's not too bad when it was made. But for some reason the last two tries for me. Was really squirrelly. I almost went into a tree when I landed. And the other time I got bucked when I landed. Glad you are okay man. Really good vid too.

I've hit everything on that trail. But now I'm scared as hell to get back on the bike and hit that. Oh well. One step at a time.

I just don't feel comfortable in the air at all. That first plank jump near the top I did and was like ok that wasn't too bad. I think it's just the fact that you don't see the landing until you're at the jump that freaks me out. That and landing on a sloped surface. If I'm landing to a flat I love popping off jumps though.

Love urban DH!

This one is pretty good too.
