2009-2011 Infiniti FX35 Shift Responsiveness Issues (Brand New Update #3)

I have 2012 and still called the dealer and the moment I told him about the acceleration (even before mentioning this TSB) he said he knows what I am talking about and have asked me to bring in on monday! I know this TSB does not say 2012, but I hoping they could address or atleast check it out and see. Will keep posted for those 2012 owners...If they say they cant fix I guess the only hope is for TSB on 2012 soon to address this.

Happy for those who got this addressed and seeing the difference!

Thanks
Anand

So much for my excitement :disapointed:. The dealer just called and said they didn't find any issue. So guess just have to wait for a TSB on a 2012. Clearly there is lag in accelerating from what I see esp. on merging/accelerating from a rolling stop.

was this the same service advisor telling you he knew what you were talking about over the phone ?

Dang that sucks, I wonder when they will have one for the 2012

Service adviser didnt rule out the possibility for similar TSB on 2012 model. But he said for that to happen more people to raise the issue so that its logged and Infiniti can take action.

2010 FX50s here, and there was an ECM update available. Apparently I have tha latest TCM available, but they needed to update the ECM. All I told him was that the engine hesitated to accelerate in fast-moving traffic.

Hope this helps anyone in a similar situation!

That means you have the original update on the tcm I had that one and it didn't really help.

no new tcm updates for the fx50 cause their isn't enough fx50 owners to push Infiniti to take action.

Forgive me for being "slow", but what's the TCM update supposed to do?

The ECM update.. I can feel it. Such a quick take-off now, its awesome.

I've only had my 2010 FX35 for a month now so I'm not sure if I should look into having this update done. I had a 2004 4Runner and there's a huge difference in the acceleration between those two. Shifting seems smooth and the downshifting is noticeable but not overly harsh in my opinion. The only thing I do notice is maybe a very slight hesitation when mashing on the peddle...just not sure that it's bad enough. It seems to have a bit of a sweet spot to get it to really take off. So, should I just take it to my dealer and ask them to check it out?

Yes. If it's covered in warranty.. why not?

Just want to contribute a little more info. I did this TSB with maintenance today. Yes, the update makes the regular drive mode of FX way better in my opinion. Anytime, you hit the gas, you get immediate response. So, it's worthy doing it. I just don't know whether this will make MPG worse or better or same? BTW, maybe non-scene to say it here, I test drive 2013 MB GL, a really nice car but not for me now, maybe when I am older and have our 2nd baby. I will pass QX, since the brake of MB is better. I don't know why NISSAN put such a tiny brake on QX56 or FX35.

Is bigger brakes even a deal breaker? I would never decide to buy one car over another just because of brakes.

And most people who buy big SUV's aren't going to drive them in a harsh manor so huge brakes aren't mandatory. Your speaking from an enthusiast point of view. If you we're really wanting bigger brakes on the FX you can upgrade them yourself or should of bought an FX50.

People are different. People make different choices by various reasons. I do not need a FX50 and do not have time for the upgrade work. My opinion is that NISSAN should offer a better brake on FX and put paddle shifter back on FX35. The performance of the brake on FX is okay, but could be better, since the brand value of infiniti is still lower than other competitors. This forum is cool, but it will not if a member's second opinion is not allowed. Take it easy. A car is just a car.

Woah woah come on dude no one said your opinion is not allowed. I think you should take it easy.

All I gave was my opinion that bigger brakes aren't always wanted by people. The point of a forum is that people start a topic and each discuss their own opinion and reply to each others opinion as I did. I never said you weren't entitled to your own 2 cents.

When I called and stated I had a problem with the down shifting and slow acceleration and said I heard there was a new software update, service advisor said that it wasn't a given that I would get the update. They had to see it for themselves. Brought it in Monday morning 7a.m. got it back Tuesday at 4p.m. They said the tech never felt the downshift issues. My invoice shows "Program update JE99AABF32, reprogram TCM". No mention of ECM, short drive home in stop and go traffic, we see how she feels tomorrow. Not happy at all that this took 2 days, could care less about a loaner car.

Can you provide an update on how the TSB has worked over the last month? I'm headed in for service soon and plan on requesting it on my 2010 FX35. Every now and then I have a huge hesitation where nothing happens when hitting the gas and then it catches up and launches sometimes making a big clunking noise when it catches!

I have my appt today scheduled for a bunch of maintenance (I have a 2010 and the battery is hosed already after only 2 yrs), and one of the things I complained about was the rough shifting between 20-40 mph where it seems the car is confused about what gear to shift into when applying gradual throttle. It tries to go into OD and the rpms drop to 1k, it sputters, then downshifts so the rpms rise, and sometimes it does this back and forth a couple times as its trying to settle into the right gear.

I complained about this behavior, and the dealer called be back later today and said they flashed the ECM and TCM (i didn't even have to point out the TSB). So assuming my behavior and the updated flash to the ECM and TCM, I'm assuming this is the update they applied. I should know tonight whether this fixes the issue or not

I had my update applied the other day and from just the drive home I could tell it drives like a totally different vehicle. I'm VERY SATISFIED with the fix, it really seemed to smooth out the shifting, responsiveness, and the car isn't always looking to shift into OD even at low speeds anymore. So from my perspective the fix definitely is worth it (it's free) and makes a big difference!
