What went wrong with your FX today?

Ian, I have had that problem on a couple of previous cars, I just left it running with the heater cranked up and the door pushed shut and it would thaw every thing out. On cars that I got a yearly rustproofing I have never had that problem.

Yep, it'll thaw out. It's winter and all, but tomorrow will have a high of 1 degree... burr
I can tell you right now Ian, I am loving my garage, why did I go all my life without one. Car never freezes up, don't have to brush off snow or scrape ice in the mornings. I love it.

had to finally get the JBT front pads replaced on the FX. By the summer time I'm going to have to do the rear pads. I might as well do all four and also replace the rotors. Wonder if i can use other rotors instead of strictly JBT rotors.

thats what i thought.

i had my roof resprayed also due to the rust in the front. cant really avoid it

really, you had to respray the roof as well? About how much did that run you if you don't mind me asking?

I wonder why this is happening to this vehicle. None of my other cars, nor my parents' cars had this problem.

Sounds like what I had with my old 2003 FX35. I sprayed the latch in the door with WD-40 and put a portable heater on it in-doors for a few hours (not too close since it's flammable). Never had a problem again. Good luck. Temperatures the next few days will be worse here in Chicago.

So.....2010 FX35 was out in driveway last couple of nights (cold in Cleveland!) and driver door will not open. How the h*ll do I fix this? Called dealer and he said "it's the door actuator." Price to remove and replace is $700!?! NEED a better (and cost effective) solution! Any help appreciated!

due to the roof lines probably. i paid around 500 buxs. i put on a wind guard on the hood and it seems to help alot

Garage all full wayne.. got the Datsun Z, tool carts, snow thrower and all the stuff for my bathroom rehab in there..

I've never heard of this one before:
I was cruising along in auto at maybe 50 or 60 mph, and decided to switch over to manual mode. Nothing - the shifter moved over fine, but it stayed "D". Manual up and manual down did nothing. I put the shifter back and forth into auto and manual a few times with no avail. The tranny and the dash light stayed as "D" and operated normally shifting fine as auto. I hoped it would be a fluke and operate correctly after a restart. Before I got to my destination, I tried one more time and auto-D went to manual-3 without a hitch.
Crazy fluke.

Check your wiring, there may be a loose connection. On BMW's, it's a pretty common problem for a wire to break over time as the shifter gets moved. Symptoms are exactly as you describe, no change when you put the shifter in manual mode. It's intermittent until it's permanent when the wire gets completely broken or pulled out.

^Thanks. I assume your describing this scenario to take place down near the shifter assembly? I can imagine that. My console has never been apart, but stuff sure does move around and a wire can get pinched or rubbed against.
I will be monitoring it for the time being.

On the BMW, it is down by the shifter assembly and I believe on the FX it is as well. I've had my console apart a lot and there are a few harnesses there by the shifter. Sometimes they get pinched or frayed by the movement of the lever. Until it breaks, it's no big deal since the fix is pretty easy. It's not going to damage anything else, so no harm in waiting and watching.

I had the same problem last night! All other doors open, driver's side door opens from the inside.(I know hot water is not the solution) Someone please help! Thanks.

I had no idea there are SO MANY threads on this subject. It seems these actuators just quit at any time! :at-wits-end:

Just realized that my rear pads are toast. It's only been 12K miles, but those miles are mostly aggressive driving in stop and go city traffic. Last week I had to take a work trip through a lot of back country mountain roads and was on the brakes pretty hard so that was likely the last straw. Weird that I never heard any wear indicators - 2 days ago I heard grinding, thought maybe it was a rock since it went away. More grinding yesterday and I did a visual inspection, rear pads are at basically zero.

Last set of pads I took off had 25K on them and they were maybe 2/3's worn. Strange that this set went so quickly. It may be because before the car mostly drove highway and my wife was the primary. Now it lives in the city and I tend to use the brakes a lot. Or because I swapped the Akebono's on at the same time as the rear pad/rotor change and the brake bias change impacted the rear brakes more.

Wish this stuff happened more often in summer. I have covered parking, but it's not enclosed and while swapping brake pads is easy, it's not fun in 35 degree weather.

UPDATE! (late as it is)
1. pressed the button on the door handle (something I never did)
2. door opened:eek.:
3. tried to start it up w/out key, would not budge:at-wits-end:
4. tried to start with key, same thing:at-wits-end:
5. red light on dash started blinking, alarm came on and honked for about a minute
6. I pressed the middle button on the key fob, all four windows went up and down three times (did not know what I was doing!)
7. alarm stops
8. tried to start car without key, car starts right up, everything back to normal:smile (2):, no trouble for a week (so far).....Is this unusual?
9. Thanks for your help!:good:

Yep. just hold down the middle button for a few seconds. (I was inside the car)
Also tap the same button twice to open the trunk. (you find out stuff when you're desperate!)
I can say that this will be the "grocery getter". (enough playing with the trunk)
