How to Install Fortin Remote Start

Finally got the EVO-ALL remote starter installed into my 2017 QX70S. For the 2017 or newer, you may have to use the RL1 Red instead of RL2 Red connector as the brake switch wire position is different from earlier model year. The symptom was the car won't start and no brake light as it attempts to start. Also, to turn on the parking. You need to turn OFF A14 Parking Light Control setting using the FlashLink Manger application.

Interesting mention. On my 2012 I actually did swap rl2 to rl1 and was able to get a crank. - however it was long and drawn out. The car started but the starter was still firing for like 3 horribly scary seconds (it's so loud when a starter engages on a running engine) So RL2 is correct for start commands, but doesn't have the correct brake wire. RL1 has the correct brake wiring, but incorrect start command / sequence.

I probably could have figured it out and did some wire splicing / swap to make the rl2 brake signal come in on the same pin as the rl1 and been in business.

Yeah, before I reach out to tech support I swap the top row two pins with the bottom row in RL2 and I was able to remote start normally. Then I talk to tech support, he told me that's the reason for RL1. So I swap the pin back to it original position and sure enough, plug in RL1 and the car remote start normally.

Hmm I think I understand but possibly not. Do you have the ability to take good pics of the pin swap? This could enable me to give the Fortin another go.

Was the pin swap on the vehicle itself or on the harness side?

If on the harness side you could just mark the swapped pin on the wiring diagram listed on page one of this thread?

Note the position of the light/blue and yellow wire on the female connector on the T harness.

You will also need to swap the wire on the male connector on the T harness that plug into the female connector on the car.

Glad to see you got this working, sorry didn't see your message earlier to be able to assist!

How did you know to do that?

Tech support told me that's the reason they have RL1 in the wiring harness.

So to be 100% sure before I buy it again. The pin swap is on the nist1 harness and no pin swap is required on the factory infiniti wiring?

Also are you still using the remote start without issue? The first night I had fortin it drained my battery but pretty sure it was cause it was wired wrong.

Correct no pin swap on factory wiring. Still using it and no issue since installed.

Sweet. How would you rate the security of the system?

Like if it's remote started and someone tries to take it will it let them? Like smashes a window or it isn't locked and someone just hops in?

Do you have to re start it each time you get in?

Looking to add it again. I did it once and took 2 hours but I didn't know the rl1 rl2 thing and it was 9pm at night and I needed my car next day so I just took it all apart and off. But I remember it being very fast.

Did you wire in the safety stop switch? For maintenance. If so where did you put it?

My apologies. I have replaced the Fortin with Compustar Firstech FT-DC3 in Jan 2022. The reason that I decided on the replacement was due to no cellular support for the Fortin in the US. This is just a remote starter for $105. iDataLink T-Harness NI5 (ADS-THR-NI5) for $30. Weblink cable to program the remote starter for $45. Install is the same as the Fortin. Mobile Drone 3-year basic subscription for $145.

Nice.

Did the compustar system/ computer require a pin swap also for the brake connector?
