Wipe New (Restore Your Black Bumper Trim)

Anyone else had experience with this product called Wipe New. It is supposed to give the bottom half of your bumpers (the black trim) a restored like new look. I ordered it without researching it as well as I should have and firstly before I bash this product, let me say I am really happy with results I got from the product one I got past all of the BS. First off the product cost $19.99 + $7.99 S&H and an additional $7.99 S&H for a rubber glove and some super small micro fiber rags. That's pretty much a total of $36.00 and the bottle is only 3.5 ounces big. Yes I said 3.5 ounces. They say its enough for two cars which is BS. I barely made it to finish my FX and I first poured the product little by little into a small container, then soaked it up with the rag, just to avoid being heavy handed and wasting it. The product is not easy to apply only because you have to apply it in one direction and also try not to pass over areas twice. After researching the product some said it leaves an acrylic or a polymer finish but the product is not labeled with ingredients at all so most were guessing. From experience the product dries fairly quickly but if you pass over a finished area before it dries it will start to streak and look sloppy.

Now onto the good stuff. The product leaves a finish that looks like you have used Armor All on the plastic but it doesn't wash away easily. It seems like it leaves a thin film that hardens on the black plastic almost like a non permanent clear coat of paint. You can actually see water bead up on it after it dries. I know because it started drizzling as I was finishing it. I used it about a three months ago and after plenty of pouring rain, and numerous washes in between, the black plastic still looks really good, so much so that I was going to paint the black plastic body color but I decided not to now because it looks 90% better. I mean I don't want to sound ridiculous but after I put the black rims on my car and used the Wipe New I had had three people, one of whom is my sister who sees the car everyday, ask me if I painted the bottom of the FX black lmao. Now I know the black rims attributed to 50% of that question but it's still pretty ridiculous. Over all I am happy with the finished result. The only down side I see IN THE FINISH of this product is that since it leaves a sort of film on the back plastic, if it gets scratched hard enough, the area where it got scratched will now really stand out. For example someone was getting in the backseat and had a back pack with metal buckles on it. They slammed the backpack pretty hard into the black plastic, over the rear wheel by the back door, and left what I thought were scratches in the actual plastic. After looking at it closely I noticed they only scratched the layer of wipe new off. Mind you I haven't had the Wipe New come off anywhere else, not even in the front where rocks skip up and hit the car most often (at least not noticeably). I didn't take pics because honestly I didn't think it would even last this long, I was taking a shot in the dark by trying it out. I like the result so much though that I probably would order it again.

The pricing is a complete rip off and the size of the bottle will probably call for two but it's the first time I've seen a product that you can wipe on once with no prep other than washing and have long term Armor All like results. If I'm wrong please someone let me know what I should be using lol. In most of the other reviews, which I read afterward, a lot of people feel like I do and like the result they got but they feel like the pricing is over the top. Some said they were going to wait for it to show up on Walmart shelves next to the other "As Seen On TV" products lol. Anyway it worked and I was happy with the finished result so I though I'd share. If I decide to get ripped off again before the winter kicks in I will take some good pics this time lol. I will also update this thread about how long the black plastic keeps it's wet look but I think three months so far for about 2 hours worth of work is pretty good though.

Stuff like sounds pretty good man, I might have to get this as well. Thanks for the info

No prob, I think you will be happy with the results but upset with the $36 3.5oz bottle that comes with a regular micro fiber cloth rag cut into 4 pieces, a rubber glove and a fancy q-tip lol. Some companies kill me, if they lowered their prices and offered a bigger bottle so more people would be inclined to try it out, they would make a killing.

Just updating that plastics still have that "Armor All" kind of shine to them, with no other products added to them.

upload pics pleasee ! I saw the ad on TV seems very interesting but I looked up acouple of youtube videos and everyone complains about the tiny amount they give people

Pics? I want to see!

by the way did you stop by MAC?

Will take pics asap my work schedule is crazy, but this stuff is the truth it lasted a long time so far. If you look at the pics of my car in my garage, those pics were taken about a montago. I put the Wipe New on early summer, and haven't treated it with anything else since. The plastic still look like. they have Armor All on them even the mud flaps and even when they are a little dirty.

Going to MAC tomorrow will let you know how that went.

Yes two downfalls of this product is one: the bottle is super small like I said its 3.5 ounces and they claim that's enough for 2 cars. That's BS I just had enough to finish the FX would have been safer with two bottles. I will buy two bottles next time. The other downfall is its time consuming to apply since it needs to be applied while trying not to overlap an area that's already been done (meaning you cant just spray it on a rag and wipe it on in a circular motion). Since it actually works you have to try not miss a spot either or that spot will stand out.

Looks very interesting. Thanks for the review.
now the million dollar question.....

HOW WELL WOULD THIS STUFF WORK ON OUR FADING WINDOW TRIMS??

I would assume it would work well on window trim. The company actual posted a you tube video of it being used to restore the glossy look on the clear coat paint of an older car. I would definitely not try anything like that myself, like I said too much of a headache too apply to actually try an entire car, but all the negatives considered I am happy with the results on the bumper trim and I will probably do this before summer every year.

I am posting a video of my muffler delete sound soon and when I do that, I will do a video walk around of the bumper trim as well.

Here is the video of them using it to restore a 98 Miata's clear coat. Notice the disclaimer lol. The disclaimer wasn't there when I first watched the video months ago, a few people must have damaged their paint attempting it themselves:

I like this except I wonder how they will wear off ....
esp if you do your whole car and it wears off enevenly some spot new and some old....
any ideas?

Sorry I haven't had the chance to upload better pics here is a couple of pics I took last night of the shine on my rear bumper trim at night. Keep in mind I have not treated my bumper with anything else, no wax or anything since I have used the Wipe New and the last time I washed my car was about a week ago. I have been trying to to figure out how I could show the shine on the bumper trim since the trim doesn't shine in the daylight it just looks like it has armor all on it. Trust me when I say these pics don't do it justice I'm still very happy with the results and if the product is still available I will probably buy more to touch up before summer. I will still try to eventually take better pics but you should be able to get a decent idea of the shine if you look at the reflection of the street light and camera flash on the bumper trim.

Why not just re-do it with trim paint, I did my brothers maxima and came out awesome. Im gonna do it to my FX just waiting till it warms up though.

I recommend (and sell) Restore Refinisher from CarWorx for this type of application versus some infomercial product. Not trying to spam the boards with a sales pitch, and please tag me as a vendor as appropriate. As an owner of two vehicles that need some "Black Trim/Cladding" help (the other being a Chevy Avalanche), I actually started a small LLC to begin importing and selling Restore Refinisher and its sister product (Cockpit Spray for interior detailing). It truly is a great product and with over 1000 cans sold, I have yet to have a complaint. It also comes in 500mL (16.9oz) cans, so you will have plenty to use. It lasts up to a year and through weather and washes. I also have set up a 10% code for forum members with code INFINITI at my website therightcarstuff [dot] com. I ship the next day via FedEx and there are no gimmicks or additional P&H charges. Simple, secure ordering and you can contact me at any time with questions. Check out my feedback on the Chevy Avalanche Forums and on eBay (therightcarstuff) and you will see that being a fellow owner versus an infomercial company makes me truly value your business. Thank you, Brian, Owner, The Right Car Stuff, LLC

I use Meguiar's Ultimate BLACK Plastic Restorer on my cars. I can say, it shines very good and lasts very long. I've seen this Wipe New on tv and didn't know if it worked as good as they stated.
