what oil do you put in your fx?

There is a lot of topics about this on here.
there is also a filter list
GO to Sams or costco. THey have the cheapest oil. I use Mobil 1 full synth every 5k miles and K&N filter

Oil

5W-30 Synthetic ----
Mobil One or Castrol Syntec.

K&N Oil Fiter Part# HP-1008--I think they do a larger one for this application as well-Anyone know that part# ?

With a good filter and good synthetic oil I do my oil changes every 5,000 miles.

I'm acctually due for an oil change. last time I changed my oil with Royal Purple. I just found out that there are two types. SEA and XPR. I was wondering, given the Harsh driving (to say the least) and high heat due to the supercharger, do I need 10W30 or 10W40? They recommend 10w40 for Sprint cars.

I have 70K+ and have just switched to Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30 + Nissan filter not too long ago.

Waited a regular interval after the initial switch. Got about 2000 miles on a second change so far.

...and did it all by myself

Pros:

  • engine runs much smoother
  • oil is clean (after the first run washed out the sludge left after mineral oil)
  • DIY is fun for anyone who is more or less technical
  • takes about 25 minutes
  • huge money saver: DIY is $25 for oil + $10 filter=$35=job done right. Dealer: $65 for a regular mineral oil change='don't-know-what-you-get' overpriced service plus since there are no Infiniti dealers in my area, we had to drive to Boston, so add a price of gas for about a 100 miles
Cons:

  • none

haha . . like anyone would drive 100 miles to get an oil change, or for that matter even go to the dealer for stuff other than warranty work . . . unless of course you're going to Metro

Wife works in Boston and would usually bring the car in for services. I just got fed up with 'visual inspections' and enormous amounts of money they charge for nothing.
