What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

^ :good:
So they're brake lights, turn signal, or just taillights?

they are connected to side markers in the tail lights. I may wire in a switch at some point, maybe next summer if the LEDs last that long

I wanted the LEDs to come on when I turn the lights on. But it seems that my tail lights and rear side markers are always on when the car is on. Doesn't matter if I turn the lights on or off. I never noticed this on this car, is that normal?

This is NOT normal. My tail lights are off if the parking/head lights are off. Stupid Question Warning: Are your lights in AUTO mode and parked in the shade when you checked?

no I tried that too. I turned it all off and they were still on. Does it make a difference if the car is in Park or Drive at all? I don't know what to think of it anymore, it doesn't make sense that they would be on.

First step might be to disconnect the reflector lights and seeing if they are causing the issue.

that's what I was thinking too. I will do it on the weekend, as I have to take the bumper off again to do that. But I don't see how they would cause that, I have wired in LEDs before, soldered all the connections properly and insulated them properly.

Didn't you connects the reflector LED wire to the tails parking light wire behind the taillights? If so, simply remove the taillights and disconnect the reflector LED wire for the test.

yes I did, but I soldered it. But that's not a big deal, I might just cut the wire to test, and re-solder it after. I don't like using wire taps and such for connections

Yeah, sounds like you might have shorted the system and tied into a ACC line instead of a bulb signal.

If it's just two wires coming into the new lights, then I would remove the connection from the new LEDs and verify that everything on the car goes back to normal. If that's the case, then my guess is that you either tied into the wrong lines, or possibly crossed lines somewhere in the install. I'd have to see the wiring diagram for the circuit to know which one for sure.

I'll try it out. The lines coming into the side marker are green/white (+ says right on the plastic where the bulb is) and black. And I connected the red from LEDs to that and black to black. I'll try taking it apart again and I'll see if that fixes it or not.

Sounds like you're doing everything right, disconnect and if that works, start reverse engineering.

You doing them black or gray?
I spent a lot of time in the shop and looked at smoked black chrome, Pearl Black, gunmetal etc. I left the shop and told them to do it in Argento metallic (like a medium metallic gunmetal). After I did the 2 1/2 hour ride back home I changed my mind and called them up.. I always loved the Hyper Black of my 20" Enkeis, it was a bit more money because it's a 3 stage process to get the Hyper Black but I went for it because I felt it goes with the vents and trim on the FX50S. I think it will be a more subtle change.
