What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

Installed a catch can I had laying around. Originally meant for the BMW, but it's universal and I picked up an application specific one for that car. So decided to install it in the FX.

And installed a B&M Supercooler. Been meaning to since I did the Stillen VB, but was lazy.

Sorry, it's just a transmission cooler. I like the design better than the typical Hayden cooler with the tube and fin design. This one is a bit more compact for a given capacity. Figured it's good insurance with the VB mod.

I did my first LED mod on the FX (besides replacing interior bulbs with LEDs). I wanted to do puddle lights, always wanted to do them on my last car but never got around to it before I sold it. Now on the FX I am not a big fan of the look, the car isn't slammed and something about it just doesn't look right to me IMHO. So I got the idea for this mod from my friend's 5 series and I just went with it. Only have 1 cellphone pic and it's not the best capture of the light. In person the light is softer but bright enough to light up the whole side of the car. Yet the light isn't so focused and doesn't have the sharp lines like puddle lights do

^ only looks that bright because iphone camera is a piece of shit. i got it done this weekend and it took about 4 hours start to finish (next time it would take me way less since i know how the mirror comes apart now).
Don't have a DIY, maybe I make one, but I don't have any pictures of the process so it wouldn't be a very good DIY. Wiring them up is the same as other puddle lights, and I found that DIY on this site.

Shadow you need to create a garage, the more I search through your posts the more custom stuff your FX has.

You have so many mods that nobody else on the scene has done...

Thanks, I'll get one up at some point. Need to finish a few more little cosmetic things and get new wheels; and clean the car. I just like to mess around with stuff and they don't make a ton of parts for the FX so I adapt. Got used to it on a previous car - '97 Maxima where no one made parts for it. That car was a Frankenstein, my BBK consisted of 300ZX calipers, custom adapters, and Mustang Cobra rotors. For the FX at least I can adapt G/Z parts which is very easy. Only hesitation I've had so far is installing the Stillen VB mod which I purchased from an '06 350Z since the TCM is in there. I was 90% sure it would work before I installed it, but was very relieved after it got up and running.

^^^ whats a Stillen VB mod???? [shame on me]... :disapointed: tried searching on Stillen, but don't know the vehicle to choose (not available for FX, obviously...)

No worries, it's basically the same thing as the Transgo valve body mod everyone does. I just found a deal on a Stillen valve body mod already installed in the valve body from an '06 Z. Saved me the hassle of drilling my own VB and if I ever want to go back to stock, I can just swap back in.

How do you like it shadow? I just found a lot of posts with negative responses to that upgrade? And how it different from Transgo: why would you need a transmission cooler for Stillen VB (never heard here anyone do that for Transgo)???

I like it, nothing earth shattering, but it cleans up the shifts. Only downside is that the 2-3 is more abrupt now and it was already somewhat abrupt stock. No issues in auto mode, but if I shift in manual mode at partial throttle, it will bang into 3rd pretty hard. At WOT, it shifts firmly, but no bang. All the complaints about the Transgo are similar for the 2-3 shift. Basically it doesn't change any characteristics, but it makes an annoying one more so. I originally got it with the intention of boosting, but that plan is up in the air right now. IMO, if you just have standard bolt ons, there isn't much value. It doesn't make the FX any faster and the shifts were never sloppy, so not huge gains. I got the cooler because the VB mod puts more stress on the transmission fluid and it's cheap insurance. Is it necessary? Depends, but for $50, better safe than sorry. On my last car, I had a custom VB mod because I was running over twice the OEM power through a stock transmission and it would slip so much that it would hit rev limiter before finishing a shift. I ran it for a while without a cooler, and it would still start slipping if I made a lot of full boost runs. After the cooler, it stayed a bit more consistent and the temperature was much lower (had a gauge). Heat kills transmissions, so I feel better having one.

how did you drain the fluid? from the tranny plug? Or did you just disconnect the hose and let w/e flow out( if this way how much came out and how much did you have to add?
