What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

Installed crawford plenum today!!!

All i have to say is VROOOOOOOOM. Almost smooth installation, with the exception of a somewhat rough idle (sometimes). It happens when the car is just sitting there, the idle will be at a constant ~850 and once in awhile dip to 700 and then go back up to 850. Thinking about a TB reset but was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions?

Hope you have resolve the idle problem by now. My guess would be to clean the throttle body too. So how do you like the Crawford so far? I love mine. You really feel the pull at 3500rpm.

Update: Concerning Crawford + Rough Idle...

70F and sun today. Decided to take another look at it. Apparantly while installing the first time, the gasket was not seated properly. Reinstalled the crawford and torqued the screws (Hint: If you dont have a torque wrench, use a nut driver and tighten it firmly, it is approx the same as 100inch/lbs on a torque wrench). Fired it up and the idle is perfect now. No more rough dipping and engine shaking. Love every second of the mod, and killed a quarter tank of gas while "road testing." :)

Finally installed the GTSpec strut brace that I bought in the group buy back in the end of 2009. Still have the rear upper and lower braces to do. Attempted it with the car on the ground without a breaker bar and gave up pretty quickly.

Been super busy and also raining out, so could not clean TB yet. I tried the TB position reset now and here are my symptoms (still a rough idle). The car idles at a little over the 2nd line (750rpm?) in the first rpm intervals. It stays smooth for about 30 seconds, and then dips lower and then right back up to the 2nd mark. When it dips low you can feel the engine struggle and the car vibrates. :(.

Im hoping that cleaning the tb will fix things up. I'm afraid that there is a leak between the crawford and lower plenum (although i replaced the old gasket with a new one...). Anyone know what symptoms a leak would show?

Did you disconnect the battery when you were installing the Crawford? If you did, and had it disconnected long enough, the ECU could have been reset. I still think it is caused by dirty throttle body.

Man, I can't believe you can hold out that long to put in the STB. Like it?

This issue arose when you installed the new plenum right? The TB is really sensitive so if you bumped/dropped it during the swap it may need to be re-calibrated and/or replaced. This is especially true if you played with the butterfly valve (very tempting) while you had it apart. Other than that it could be a vacuum leak between the TB and lower plenum. Verify all hoses are connected and that there are no connections on the upper plenum left uncapped, then check the gasket between the TB and the upper plenum. Since you replaced the upper->lower plenum gasket it's probably not that one.

It's also worth noting that the reset procedure ("pedal dance") list that fxlr8 wrote takes a lot of people several tries to complete, and that the order in which the individual procedures are done is important.

Heh, me neither. I guess I've just been puting it off... Or just pure laziness. I haven't even driven it. Been taking the loaner Corolla everywhere since it's better on gas.

just took off my rims and currently parting out my car. planning to sell it. i currently still have to take off my hks coils, fujita intake, plenum spacers, Megan racing test pipes, and still need to trade someone for oem head lights because i have black housed ones
