What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

I have a friend who owns a small muffler shop in town and I was chatting with him a few days ago about how, despite my interior sound insulation, the drone at and below 2.2K rpm is slowly eating away at me. My friend says "a lot of stock resonators are POS. Swing by next week and we'll take a look." Today I happened to drive right by his shop so I stop in and he ends up suggesting a swap, so I replaced my sh!tty stock resonator:

With a slightly less sh!tty aftermarket resonator:

Aaaaaaand my drone is completely gone. It sounds exactly the same at WOT but now there is no drone anywhere and the volume increase is completely linear relative to load+rpm.
It's hard to deduce the scale from those two phone pics but the new unit is cylindrical, about 3.5" in diameter, a little lighter, and about 6" longer than the OEM part. $60 and 13min, out the door. :ninja:

Excellent news Tim. I am so close to selling my system, if all it takes is a slightly longer resonator than what I have I am in.

whoa! sweet! The drone has also been bothering my passengers (not me, hehe) and thinking about fixing it up somehow. can you provide more information about the aftermarket resonator?

I didn't get the specs. I'll find out tomorrow and post them here.

Wait. Will this fix the drone on the invidia exhaust also? That's driving me up the wall.

My exhaust is stock aside from the muffler so it's not really an "apples to apples" comparison, but if your resonator looks like the oem unit then I would think it's pretty likely.

The Invidia Gemini (do you have the Gemini Bklyn?) resonator looks like a shorter version of what you just had installed TC. I wonder if the added length would make the difference. I also PM'd Gordon to see if Invidia can come up with the front portion of the system with longer resonators. Would be a nice customer service fix BUT I would be willing to pay for the front end to fix the resonance factor.

I am missing a center hanger, system dangles freestyle from cat connection to the next hanger which is right in front of the rear diff. Last time I was in the shop the rear diff hangar had broken free and needed to be welded up. I agree with you, the front piece needs to be resolved and the flex pipes moved a bit making room for 4-5" of additional resonator.

Maybe a GB thread is in order? I know there are others who would step up for the "fix", sometimes QC works backwards. Hey, I am one of the lucky ones with the shorter front Y for the 06+ 45 so I may have to slice and dice whatever is made up.

My invoice says "2-1/4 x 18 resonator", fwiw.

These pics make it look like the res could get quite a bit longer with the Gemini system without modifying both sections.

Tchuck's post looks like a RWD model, and thus the bends are much closer to the front, and the flex section is closer to the cat connection.

That pic you posted is like the generic picture for it that shows up on most vendor's sites and eBay. So it might not be the actual exact product.
