I do realize this post is a smidge old but.... might anyone know what size wheels he used and if they cleared the brakes without any spacers?New wheels...TSW Bathurst...tons lighter than stock!
Something in the coolant system blew while the wife was in the drive thru at a coffee spot. Steam everywhere and someone called the fire department, ! Back to the dealer and looks like heater hose coupling blew. Didn’t know this was a common issue until I did some reading. Fingers crossed this is the last of the problems when this is fixed…Just paid the dealership $3500 to do a full cooling system overhaul at 125k miles after the radiator exploded on the QX70S 5.0. Water pump, upper and lower hoses, radiator, thermostat and housing, coolant and belts replaced. Just had trans fluid changed for second time 10k miles ago, major service at 105k with spark plugs and most other fluids changed including brake and steering. Probably $10k+ in services since purchase at 50k miles. Still gotta kick out $3k for a steering rack, probably $4k for shocks and however much for the intake cleaning/throttle calibration. Gotta make this car last with the outrageous current prices of new cars and interest rates!
Only posting the updates in hopes it helps others searching but looks like the fans not running caused a lot of the issues I had with the cooling system. Car overheated again on the way home 3 days after repair. Apparently the whole fan system on a lot of Infinitis basically quit after awhile. Sometimes the relay modules can be replaced on the backside of the fan for cheap but on our case, the fan motors were shot. Ours gradually stopped working and the clue was the A/C not cooling when stopping at lights or in drive thru early on. It didn’t cause on overheat situation then, but eventually the fans just quit altogether. In the instance of the radiator blowing up, the car was in stop and go traffic, so no airflow and the rad was likely the weakest point in the system. In the instance of the heater hoses blowing, the car was in the drive thru..no air flow and the hoses were likely the weakest point after the other fixes. Both cases pointed to the fans not moving air across the radiator. Didn’t notice it until everything was new and the car was still overheating. Checked function in the garage after noticing the temp climb and I heard no fans. First dealer likely just installed new parts and didn’t even check the function. So, if you have issues with your AC not cooling sometimes at slow speeds, hoses popping, and car overheating at low speeds check to see if the fans are running! Wallet is another $2k lighter for whole fan assembly and controller, so $7k for a complete cooling system change…Something in the coolant system blew while the wife was in the drive thru at a coffee spot. Yes and a lot of it probably could’ve been avoided if I did some deductive analysis early on. Wife drives the car and she’s often by herself, so may as well change everything and make sure it’s reliable for her.Wow, you went through a lot. Thanks for sharing. I will have to keep my eyes and ears out on the fan's operation.
Ouch, sorry to hear that.Welp, the Infiniti started stranding the wife again. Random battery failure approximately 2 years on the dot like usual. On two occasions the car would refuse to start. Sometimes it will power up all accessories and the starter would not engage. Other times the car would be completely dead and we can’t even get in (key that came with car doesn’t fit). Replaced battery since the car kills them every 2 years anyway and thought it was mostly fixed. Couple days later, dead car again. Jumped it and took it straight to dealer. Diagnosis was bad starter. The rectifier/solenoid was causing a condition that drains the battery, supposedly. $2300 later with an oil change and two new correct key blades for only $17 each, car seems to be fine but cautious and hating this damn car more and more every day. Too much invested to get rid of it and hate it too much to keep it. Thanks for listening to my rant.
Intake manifold has to come out. Starter is in the V beneath it at the back near the firewall. How hard is it to change the starter, somethings i can do, brakes, rotors, even electronic/electrical troubleshooting but the infinity has some places so hard to get to, so we end up at the dealership snd $$. It costed me $450 for new pads and rotors front and back. Dealership quoted me $1800 for rear brakes and rotors.
Ouch, that does suck! How about another update. Came out to strange puddle under front of car after it came home. Looked like oil but was a bit too clear. Turns out my power steering line is leaking badly at the crimp joints. Cant be too much to change a couple hoses, right? How about $5k because the damn front cross member, the diff, and a bunch of other shite has to come out since the hoses run underneath the engine in the 5.0s. Plus there are like 1000 other little hoses that should be changed with the main high pressure and low pressure lines. Main line set was like $1200. Took a couple of weeks to even locate the parts. The downsides of a bespoke engine. This car kinda sucks now. Rant concluded.
View attachment 608580 Started working on Chrome Delete, used some 3M Vinyl for most areas, tried some new Wrap Spray paint on the grill…not a fan.
Will post once I finish the Vent.
