What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

New member here! I'm not new to infiniti but I'm new to this forum. So this past week I've been gathering some parts and my FX50S will be complete soon. I was able to get an oem 2015 front bumper a 2016 grill for $170 dollars. soon I'll have a front lip . Then I just need to get my russian made rear lip and sides skirt painted then I'll be happy with the 50.

Just received my grom VL2, will try to find time this weekend.

Also decided to remove the clear bra on the hood section, and apparently didn't use enough heat because I have a ton of residual gunk to try to get off. Hours of elbow grease.

Interested to hear your feedback on how the GROM VL2 working out. A few installed Nifty City unit

Ya, so had in for a couple weeks now.

Installation: I'm pretty well versed in tearing into the dashes of cars, but I was a little intimidated after I disconnected all of the plugs in the back of the stock head unit. Just because once it's all plugged back in, there was a plug that is not plugged in, and I didn't recall anything not plugged in when I opened it up. Regardless, after some looking at plug colors, got it all put back together. First issue I wasn't crazy about is after adding the grom harness the space is a bit tighter than it was before. So it felt like all the screws were under a bit more tesion, but whatever.
I went the first week with just the wires going through the side hole of the glove box, but again, too tight, and the glove box closed lopsided. So I ended up drill a hole in the top of the glove box insert (the one you have to take out when you change the cabin air filter). With some zip ties, everything is clean and glove box closes nicely.
The first week, I didn't hook up anything other than the harness it came with. To my surprise, everything worked great. Fired it up, AndroidAuto (wireless) worked great. The ONLY problem was that if I hit the microphone buttton (for Google Assistant) it couldn't hear me through the OEM microphone. So I did have to plug the microphone it comes with in, and I stuck into the seam in the console. Not crazy about having another little microphone, even though it's not that intrusive, I'm just a bit picky.

The kit comes with a USB line in an a GPS antenna that I didn't install.

Operation:
First, let me say that I absolutely love the upgrade. I love that I have wirelss android auto in my 9 year old car, when my wife's 2021 Mazda CX-9 is still wired Android Auto. Apps work great, maps/navigation is seamless. I love that phone calls still use the factory microphone so it's good quality. The touch screen works well, but will say it's not a nice capacitive touch like a tablet/phone screen (to be expected obviously), but because of this you can "flip scroll", you have to use scrollbar buttons. Steering wheel controls work just the same (oddly next--song direction is reversed). Physical scroll-wheel works great for "eyes on the road" operation. Also works well to grab phone and type or whatever, which wired AA won't even let you do.

The few shortcomings I've noticed, but again for a 9 year old car with this capability are downplayed ...
1. The startup time is a bit slow, by the time I turn car on buckle up shift into gear, it can still be in process of booting into the GROM operating system, then it automatically boots into AndroidAuto, which sometimes shows an intermediate screen for a few seconds. But overall it's not too bad.
2. When you use HVAC controls it reverts back to factory screen. This can be a bit hokey if the factory NAV map is up, just looks totally different than AA map.

Notable features:
1. you can setup routines, so I just hop in, and hit a shortcut that is "commute home" and it sends my wife a text, navigates home, and plays a specific station on spotify. Same with commute to work.
2. You can tether wifi from your phone through the unit, so other people in your car can access wifi through the unit.
3. Already received an update through the over-the-air (via phone). So it's actively being improved, and it's easy to get updates.

Overall, I haven't tried the Nifty City. I chose the GROM because it seemed like NC wanted to upcharge for all kinds of things, and the price for basically the same capability was $200 more expensive. Tesla screen obviously awesome, but not crazy about losing all the factory controls and have heard some horror stories getting it working properly.

started mine up to let the fluids flow. haven't driven my FX for a few weeks now. thinking about, but don't really want to, selling it. it's just sitting. anyone else in the same position?
