VK45 –Stage 1 Headers/JWT cams/TB/intake

Wow. I'm sorry to hear about the breakdown Lance, but if there's anything good about this it's that if it had to happen, it happened at idle.

I still can't believe JWT hit you with that nonsense about cammed M's, but I digress.

The big question? How much $$$ am I on hook for? My kids college funds are rapidly fading.........The tried and true cost/power formula of 1k per 10WHP is shifting to a formula of 1/4 year tuition for a cammed N/A VK or 1/2 year or three quarters for a bore and stroke......I think I like the educational comparison as it - 1. Buries the numbers and 2. Gives me time to save......Hey, my kids are sharp, they won't need a college education =)

There are always scholarships. Just tell them that making their own way will make them better people in the end.

At least you didn't do Illinois pre-paid tuition. (face palm)

Or Bright Start Illinois 529 plan. (face palm)

Sigh.

Just signed up for the Washington 529/GET, hopefully it plays out better........Their Apple stock has been the clear education portfolio winner.

Went by the shop today to see the damaged/new parts (and to cut a check). Valves are being cleaned up and it appears that the single valve was an "anomaly".

Dropped off extra non-engine parts for install, discussed new delivery date. At least 2-3 weeks out, not sweating it anymore. Based on our research this is the first VK45 to utilize the JWT S2 cams that we know of.

Getting close - Again =) Transmission is almost bolted up, HFC's are going on now. I offered to let the tech drive it for a couple of weeks (as I can't) and make a couple of appointments for me, tuning, new tires etc.

What was previously done:
• INJEN CAI - Purchased from http://www.autoanything.com/ 9.10.11 DIY made for the M45 VK. Re-welded mounting and it fits perfectly. Changed out INJEN capped filter for much larger 9" AMSOIL filter with open end design #3590 also purchased AMSOIL pre-filter sleeve #eAPF18 to prevent water intake .
• NISMO S-Tuned exhaust - Purchased http://www.leeparts.com /8/21/11 Very nice, quiet at start up. Quiet at idle, under load almost as loud as Invidia but a more OE tuned sound. Power through RPM's close to same comes on a bit earlier at 1,700, possibly more torque and slightly more bottom end, no drone. A 9 for power, a 9 for sound.
• Electric fan conversion https://www.infinitiscene.com/search/1/?q=8859-FX45-electric-fan-conversion 12.30.09 - Reliable, OE install, power increase across RPM's, slightly better MPG.
• Chedman recently suggested the electric water pump, I like the idea.
• Transgo shift kit 2.15.10 (Part #RE5R05A JATCO ) Good mod-At WOT FX feels like it lunges forward at shift. Doing the install at the time of tranny fluid change makes most sense.
• UPREV Dyno tune 4.01.10 EXCELLENT mod bumped WHP to 250 and Torque to 317 Ft. Lbs. definite gain and tied the breather mods together well, an easy 10.
New Work below completed 11.25.11 (work performed @ http://www.gerbermotorsport.com/:)
• JWT Cams/Springs - Purchased from http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/- 8.29.11 Arrived 9.2.11 Installed Cam cost gear ends of cams needed to be ground down slightly as these cams were made for a Titan VK56.
• Reworked OE manifold - Ported, ground, and smoothed for better air flow (many badly cast areas internally) in some areas tech removed up to 4mm of blocking material. Manifold is Chromex ceramic coated and polished. Please note, both the heads and the intake on the engine are solid.
• Had the OE throttle body modified/ bored to 2.5mm over stock ID, functions on my engine. Still under testing on the VQ but another member is following up on this and should have results in the near future. Please note if you do this mod you will need a tune.
• Custom made 4-2-1 SS headers with Banks collectors, pipes have been silver ceramic Chromex coated for sound and heat transmission.
• 300 cell HFC's
• SOUND CLIP of Dyno tune in process - http://s1135.photobucket.com/albums/m634/loganfx45/?action=view&current=MOL151.mp4
Been a longer journey than I expected but I am still really looking forward to seeing what this will do.

HFC's are custom, plates are welded on. Still think about stroker kit, pistons, and pauter arms......this is a good stage II point for the VK.
