So I was debating if this thread should simply be renamed, start an all new thread and document the potential new build OR if I should wait and see.....soooo for now to close this chapter......The issue with the vk45 stage 1 build was the lifter buckets (commonly know as shims). VK45's have 2 the JWT cams should have only 1. The "issue" occurred on both builds at low RPM's. First failure was not too bad, second failure was catastrophic, snapping a cam, scoring the block and bending three valves...my bulletproof engine with 39K miles. That engine is now - retired.
The next build was going to be dropping in a vk56. I purchased the engine, JWT endorsed it, and my builder began measuring everything out for fitment. That's where everything started going south - again. Sizing and fitment on bell housing, mounts, AC condenser, oil pan many issues....it can be done BUT it wouldn't be done for a LONG time and it will be costly. After five months I've run of patience and believe me I have covered my fair share of invoices.
So I purchased an M45 engine today and some extra heads. Going vk45 again, going to get it right. I was looking forward to the grunt of the 56 but honestly I was already feeling a bit of disconnect from my 45 brethren. I can once again use my full custom exhaust (the reason I pulled it down) which helps, and all my parts fit.
Cross your fingers........
