hey guys, I guess some of you have seen my custom headlights in my fx thread, & I know many here have really liked the look of them, but as I mentioned in my thread, building dual bi-xenon motorized headlights is an extreme amount of time & labor & building them for others would also mean an extreme amount of money, don't think too many would want to consider spending over $2,000 for a set of headlights no matter how sick they are. I am not a fan of the stock crystal looking inner dtrl in stock form & this is one mod that I have been contemplating from day one with my fx...
well, since I built them, I have been thinking of a way to get this same kind of dramatic & beautiful look without the extreme amount of labor involved for you guys, & in experimenting & chopping up quite a few sets of headlights, I have come up with a way to build dual projector headlights without anywhere near the extreme amount of labor mine required.
my new design is all contained within the original headlight housing, so it is a bolt in affair, direct replacement to the original fx headlight, requires no alteration to the fx at all to use these lights & is reversible at any time.. it is NOT a true dual bi-xenon setup, as the inner projector will not fit a xenon light in this configuration without additional fabrication, but it has the appearance of a true dual projector. the inner projector is illuminated by the dtrl bulb, & of course a brighter multi led bulb can be used here too.
I also have been playing with inner led illumination on these projectors themselves, & the effect is pretty unique, it kinda has the new M35 look to them, with multiple lit dots around the projector. this is OPTIONAL & is not required or included in the basic build of these lights, but is a nice custom touch for those who would want this too, & can be done on either the inner or outer projector or both.
I am starting this thread to try & gage interest in these & for those who haven't seen them in my thread to see them, I am building a few sets of these already & will have a few to sell, but I have an opportunity to buy even more headlights so I can build even more of these if the demand is there for them.
I have calculated the amount of labor it takes me to build these & I can build these lights, in the basic chrome finish for a total of $400 LABOR complete... add to this 2 sets of headlights that are required to build these & the price for a basic pair of these, in the existing chrome finish would be $600 outright, no cores or return of your headlights required. I could also accept your GOOD USED, NEVER OPENED virginal headlights as a core & you would receive $100 credit for each pair you send me, so if you sent me 2 good sets it would cost you just $400 plus shipping to have a set of these. I'm sorry, but I WILL NOT work with any headlights that have already been opened, painted or whatever, only unopened original headlights are eligible as cores, considering you'd have to pay to ship your lights to me it may be more cost effective to sell your lights else ware, but I can accept yours if you choose to do so, I will have good clean cores on hand to build these with initially so your lights are not really necessary at this point.
now, as far as options, one option that I think many would want is blacking out the headlights, for blacked out headlights add $75 to the cost for them to be professionally media blasted to de-chrome & then refinished in black. other custom finishes can be done too, anything from 2-tone to body color etc..., any inquiries & pricing there will be on a case by case basis. another option is the LEDs inside the projectors, those will cost $50 a pair installed, the LEDs alone cost $15 each, so $30 a pair, then $20 to epoxy them in & wire them, so to do the LEDs on all 4 projectors would be $100 additional total, $50 a pair X2. then we also have the option of tinting the lenses, either smoked or even color tinted if you want, all headlight tinting would be done from inside the lens, so it is durable & permanent, tinting would start at $60 a pair for a basic smoked tint. every pair of lights I'll build will be polished on the outside for a nice clean scuff free lens & the headlights will look good as new, since there tinted inside the tint can't be scratched & any future scuffs can just be polished out on these lights without harming the tint. all headlights are going to be sealed with extra sealant added to insure a leak free light capsule too.
now, I don't know what guys thoughts are on this, I don't know if a lot of guys will definitely want these, or if most will think this is just way to much money to spend on headlights, I can answer for myself in saying that I have already spent thousands myself in buying a lot of sets of headlights & cutting them up & working on lights for myself, all to get a unique & custom look, but that doesn't mean others would feel the same, so I'm really trying to Gage interest here & weather you guys think this might be something you'd want. I do know that there are some custom light shops that build much more expensive headlights & taillights for the G & Z crowd, but what about the fx crowd? what do you think?
first 2 shots shows how the dtrl sits behind the projector. the sides will be sealed off so there will be no light leakage outside of the projector:
and this is about what the basic chrome assy will look like:
now, this is a few shots of what the inner LEDs will do to these projectors... they are very bright & very noticeable, even though your really only seeing a reflection of the LEDs which are internal. in these shots the area around the inner shroud is still open so you see light leakage but this will not be the case in the final design. these are shots from my headlights & you can see that the bezels are not quite the same, mikne required the iner shroud to be pushed in a lot where this new design is more symetrical & even
this is what the LEDs look like inside the housing, if these are installed but not turned on you wouldn't even know they were there....
don't mind the black you see on those test bezels, that is NOT what the final black finish will look like
now I really think I am pricing these as fair as I can considering the amount of time & resources I would have to put into these, I am not a factory so these will still be kinda limited in quantities, they are all hand built by me, lead time is hard to say but I would try to prepare several at the same time to make it more efficient, lmk what you think, my feelings won't be hurt if many don't think there worth the $$$, everyone can't be as nuts as I am
