The Random Question Thread

Thanks Andy. It's so cheaply priced, plain curiosity is getting the best of me.
I'm thinking I'll get it and keep my core to have that rebuilt. I don't know.

Random Followup...
I ended up getting the cheapy $37 starter. Standard delivery from RockAuto delivered it next day. Took it to a local shop and had it installed for $152. It starts up quick and crisp! (Well, it has once. lol)
So, if I return for the core deposit, the starter cost me $189 without having to get my hands dirty.
I might get the old starter rebuilt just in case the cheapy craps out on me.

Hey all, Im activly looking for a first gen FX35. Can anyone tell me it it uses the same motor and transmission as the 05-06 Altima SE-R?
ive read alot about how solid and some what problem free the FX's are, but i know the SE-R had some issues with the transmission and motors over heating?

$189 installed is a very good deal for a new starter. :good:

Do any of you have tint on your sunroof? My wife hates having the blind open because of the heat (SMH...) so looking to put 20% on it...

Read a few things about people's sunroof glass cracking/exploding (over time) when the blind is closed because the heat travels through the glass, hits the shade and is normally reflected back out, however with the tint it remains trapped...

Just curious if that's total BS or if anyone has experienced any problems with sunroof tinting

thanks!

I just keep the slider closed if the sunroof isn't open. Are people saying the heat increases the pressure enough to explode the glass? That seems unlikely. I also don't see why the heat would get trapped by the tint. If it's getting trapped by the tint, then it should have never been let in by the tint.

Here's a news article on it: http://www.wral.com/without-warning-sunroofs-shatter-into-a-million-pieces-/11728208/ Very odd.

Anyone ever get into an accident with a horse before?

My mother in law was driving to both of my daughters dance recital, hit a loose horse today. She was driving about 38-40mph and the horse came running into the roadway from the right. She struck it, it hit the windshield full force, damaging front bumper, front pass fender, pass door, and pass window.

Police officer didn't really want to take a report. I made him. We found the owner of the horse and she was distraught over her horse and my mother in laws accident. The horse is very injured and is most likely going to be put down. The vet was on the way when we left.

This happened at approximately 430pm. My mother in law is feeling a lot of back pain as of 10pm. Probably going to take her to the hospital soon. She is still pretty shook up.

Now reading up on the net, horse owners are not responsible for damages caused by getting loose? According to the net, it is going to fall under comprehensive on her insurance. Any rental car and deductible comes out of my mother in laws pocket? The owner is not responsible for anything? Police officer stated that this will probably be a civil incident meaning the two parties are going to have to solve this themselves or in court.

Any advice?

Looking at starters on rockauto...
PURE ENERGY (remanufactured) $37 + $40core = $77
REMY (remanufactured) $105 + $70core = $175
DENSO (remanufactured) $141 + $34core = $175
AC DELCO (remanufactured) $184 + $49core = $233

I feel skeptical about the low price on the Pure Energy. Anybody have any experiences?
I'm thinking it might be worth the risk just to found out.
I bought denso. Still working for 2 years now with no issues

There should not be a "thick fluid goob" on the stick. It should look just like the oil dipstick. Perhaps, clean the "thick fluid goob" off the stick and pull it out to check again in a a day or two?.

I don't see any fluid on the end of the stick. Is the goob is all you can see? If so, you're very low on fluid.

Wow.. guess I'll never go to that transmission place again.
There was a time when I told you guys about the mechanics that worked on draining and filling my transmission..
well, the transmission fluid was leaking, so I thought the screws were one-time screws like I had told you guys..
The problem was is that they needed a gasket.. the replaced the gasket, but I'm not sure if they had topped it off all the way, like they should've after the leaking.

Guess I'll just do this myself from now on.

Hello guys! One of my very close buddies is looking at picking up my old pair of wheels for his Chrysler vehicle with 5 x 127 lug pattern specs. I am looking at helping him with recommendations on the right wheel adapters, preferably hubcentric. Would this fit?

This spacer / adapter has a spec of 5x114.3 to 5x 127. If this fits, hubcentric rings are definitely required. I am not sure if the 114.3 is for the wheel to 127 vehicle's lug pattern or the other way around. Any help is appreciated.

The wheel spacer bolt pattern will work, but you will have a problem with the hub centric rings for the setup though. Infiniti wheels center fore is 66.1 . The listed spacer is 71.5. A quick lookup indicating the Chrysler are mostly 71.5 also? If so, can't see how this will work out.

You have to go with a custom made spacer, but it may be more $. The custom made spacer will have 71.5 center bore with 5x127 bolt pattern so that it can be bolted to the hub. The stud pattern will 5x114.3 and the bore center will be 66.1 to mount the Infiniti wheel onto it.

Thanks Andy. I was thinking of placing hubcentric rings. Will this work?:

You were right, I could not find a 71.5 to 66.1 hubcentric ring

:good::good::good: You are awesome Andy. I tried the link you provided and the price point between having a custom made adaptor to a combo between prefab wheel adaptor plus rings is negligible. Plus there will be less parts on this option.
