I got this idea from rijc99, who figured it out, and from Fire0nic3 who tried it on his ride. Thanks guys .

To begin with this mod does not affect the sat radio but it does affect FM radio reception (signal strenth is less)

With this mod you go from the 7" OEM antenna to a fake 1" antenna, but it looks soooo much better.

from this

To this

Parts Required
-5mm SS screw, 12mm long
-rubber vacuum cap to fit over head of screw

Unscrew OEM 7" antenna

Install 5mm screw and tighten finger tight

Slide rubber Cap over screw and old antenna base

That's it, it costs less than a couple of $ and only takes a minute to do.

Nice DIY!

So your saying you lost some strength of your AM/FM reception? After I changed mine it was still just as good as before. I even went through the Lincoln tunnel here and I was even receiving my radio reception under water in the tunnel with no signal or quality loss.

I always use XM radio instead of the regular radio anyways, but the quality is still just as good as before.

Thanks

Absolutely, my FM reception is much poorer now. I am in a poor FM reception area, so when I did the change I lost half of my channels that I had punched in.
I am like you though, I use XM radio most of the time.

Easy Duz It

By far the easiest, fastest and least expensive modification I've ever seen. BAM! Done. No degradation of FM/AM signal that I have noticed so far.

I have it on mine. No reception loss or anything like that. I love the stubby antenna. The long antenna that comes with the FX is hideous. Totally ruins the lines of the sloping roof.

I put mine back to stock because I did lose most of my FM reception. As I said in an earlier post I do live in a fringe area so my FM reception is not the best.

Did you try any other supply stores, I got mine in a hardware store. I didn't think Lowes would carry fasteners like that.

THANKS! gee35fx. Looks great. i have a first gen and i took the mast off to lighten it up a little up there but the threads still show. off the the parts store to find a rubber vacum hose. thanks again!

mod complete.

I like the look a lot better it's cleaner
