Strut Bearing Broke again

Ok guys here is a pic of the bearing infiniti parts sent me.

...

Bearing opened.

No bearings. Is this the new replacement without bearings? Or they screwed up.

Weird, I've never seen that style before. They almost look like a ball-elastomeric hybrid or something. Can you pull one of the little modules out of the race? Is it just a lubricated pad or are there balls inside?

What the hell bearings did they send me? If they know what part is what then how'd i end up with this from an infiniti parts dealer.

I got screwed cause i ordered these months ago to prepare to change out the bearings. At that time i had no clue what the bearings looked like. 36 bucks wasted.

John, did you ended up using the "plastic sliders/bearing"?

I didn't take the chance of installing a bearing i had no clue about. PITA to take it all apart if it was the wrong bearing. It's a plastic ring with raises on it with no bearings. Got some bearings from the bike shop and repacked the original bearings.

Hmm, InfinitiPartsUSA also sent me like those Bklynjohn shown on the photos here. I order then way before I get to use them and misplaced them. It doesn't look anything on MNT_FX's DYI photos. I want to use them anyway with my new springs and struts install at them time, but I misplace them, so I reuse the old ones. Glad to see what's underneath them. They sure are weird looking bearing.

The inner cone ring on the bearing housing was not pitted nor groved out. I measured the bearings and they are 3/16 in size. Replaced all the bearings with new grease. So far everything works good. (knock on wood).

Did you bother to test fitting the plastic strut bearing? Meaning: just to align it to the strut cover/housing. They sure look identical from the outside design.

just checked my database, 543258j000 is the listed part # for all fx's 03-08... & that seems to e what the dealer is sending out as correct for this application... very weird.. the one that mtn fx showed, pn# 54325ag000, don't know where that part # even came from but yeah, THAT looks like the right bearing....

Man, I went through this exact issue when I replaced 90% of my suspension parts.

I ordered everything from infinitipartsusa.com and even called them to ensure I had everything to give to my local mechanic.

Low and behold, my mechanic called and said where are the bearings for the struts. I told him, well there is a bag that says bearings on it (that plastic picture ring that everyone is showing), and he said that's not it.

So I had to be out of my car 1 day before he could get the "real" bearing part in. I never asked what part he ordered but he got it from our local Infiniti dealership.

When he took apart my front strut, he did say all the ball bearings starting fall out and that it was definitely spent.

Whatever it is, he definitely put ball bearings back in with the new part b/c he told me.

Very interested to know the part# for the strut bearing your mechanic had ordered. I'm sure it comes in handy one day. So apparently, the one InifinitPartsUSA sent out is not the right one. I'm glad that I misplaced the "new" one I ordered from InfinitiPartsUSA at the time I replace mine a year ago.

he said he used it, but he needed the ball bearings too. let me try to dig up my receipt to see if it's on there.

I test fitted the bearing in the upper strut assembley and it didn't take up the space the factory took up. It's allot thinner. Thickness, a few millimeters off. But the roundness the same. The sleve on the bearing though was much longer. As if it was made to make up for thickness difference.

Wow. This is a big mystery then. I'll wait a week or 2 for this job until we come to something here.
If I have some time today, I will call Joe at InfinitiParts.
Keep posting your findings guys, thx

Maybe they redesigned it due to these failures?

+1. The issue seems to be with an 06 model, and nobody with an 03-05 has ever seen it before. Honestly, the lubricated plastic design looks better suited for the job IMO. It's not like it ever spins enough to generate any heat...

Spoke to Infinitiparts. Apparently, 8J000 is the correct part for 2007, but you need to check the VIN for production date. If the car was an early 2007, then it will take the older part design. If it's a later, it'll take the newer one. Can anyone confirm this w/ a late model '07/08?
in the catalog, There is no part number preceding the newr one, which says it's not a redesigned part (yet it kinda would be in my mind) & not interchangable btwn model years. Maybe the strut design is diffrnt between model years. I would like the new one one if we could figure out a fit.

I remember in the past, noticing there was a split, & that newer 1st gens used a different part#, but my data base is updated monthly, & now it only shows the one part #, so maybe the new part # supersedes the old, pretty common... wish I paid more attention to the part #'s back when they did show 2 different ones in my database... now it shows the 8j000 as for all, 03-08???

What you're looking at . . Is it diffnt than what Joe might use to look up parts. They still have the old part number for the earlier cars

well far as I know the database is updated monthly on my end... was a few months ago I saw 2 different part #'s, sometimes my data is more current than the dealers depending on when they update there database... they both come from the same source I believe

Too much confusion here. who else could we ask?

I was also told that the old part number would be listed with the new one if it were a redesign. Is that true?
