Ray's Boost

Oh man, Ray I'm so sad for you. That's got to hurt opening her up again in such a short time frame. Was she running well before?

She did fine was running great no errors. I wasn't really comfortabel with the tranny though. I can feel it strungling with the power and in manual it even "cluncked" / schocked once a while so was already doing some research on a A/T > M/T conversion but i don't have to budget for that right now. First off.....this new issue.

Do you have a valve body? If so, that's the clunk. Mine clunks on the 2-3 and 3-4 shift and I'm not boosted. It's pretty normal. I would only worry about the tranny if it was slipping between shifts. When you're under boost, if the transmission slips during the shift like a slipping clutch and the revs keep going up, then it's on the way out. The shifts are when the clutch packs are engaging and the line pressure is what engages them. That's why there are VB mods, to up line pressure during shifts so they engage faster with less slip. If your transmission is clunking and not slipping, it's probably not a problem.

I agree. I have a clunk as well but it started only after the transmission modifications and it is only under hard acceleration. It's not slipping so I've never had a problem with it.

Man I don't understand why you keep having motor problems. I understand mistakes but I gotta say, I'd never trust or use your current builder again. These are assembly and fitting failures. The motor is the heart of the whole system, but the AT limits your ultimate power output.

You obviously are not punishing the car? Why do you think this happened?

I understand the VB story guys. I have the same clunk in that as well with shifting its not what i mean. When driving in manual and ir changing to it whyle driving i can feel the whole tranny giving a clunck......as if the internals having a to hard of a job. Its not always but once a while i feel it. I understand your opninion brad but the first motor outter then the cranck was sort if built by myself. Valve springs together with cams and a fail timing chain tensioner were the issue IMO. Motor 2.0 was build completly by my builder. And the bearing clearance specs has been a lot of discussion. Some say keep the oem specs other say use the ACL specs. They used the ACL specs so don't know what happened honestly.....

Is it happening during a shift under power? Or is it just while driving around? Maybe you need to pull the battery cable for 12 hours so the TCM resets. With a VB and significantly more power, the shift logic may be getting confused.

Not while shifting we mapped the tcm a bit with the osiris program. I feel it mostly just after when i driven hard en the tranny shift back or so in auto mode. Or when i go to manual......you can feel the whole tranny give a little bang.

Note: i put in castrol 10w60 and now am thinking that i should have stayed with a lower W. But had this oil for many years in my audi S4 with no issues and the 350Z N/A challenge here also drives with it so thought it would be a good choice. Gues i was wrong. The thing here in the Netherlands brad is that there is just not that much knowledge here are a few tuners who think they know it all and charge you like crazy and then even blow engines. And in the end for specific engine work these guys even go to the same machine/overhaul shops as i went.

Transported the FX per raceshuttle to my engine builder yesterday. It was a very thight fit on maybe an inch put we managed it. Monday we'll try to open the lower section first to see what the F just happened.

Crazy right. Belongs to a bussines buddy of mine. He is the european distributor for invidia...injen....jbt....summit (gt spec) and Stri gauges and many other nice tuning/performance parts. Hooked me up with a ride as driving was no longer an option anymore. Me and my 350Z buddy have been doing a lot of research the last week and dove into the way technical world of bearing spacing/clearance and specific motor oil. Some opnions couldn't be farther apart in this and has to do with so many variabels as well. ....temp......horsepower.....oil weight and clearance. Hope we can get it right this time cause i'm thinking here lies the issue at hand.

Wicked trailer. Love how the side opens up so you can get out of your car. At first I had thought you had to crawl through the trunk lol

Sent from my XT1060

Me too buddy.....me too. So final verdict:
* rear cranck bearing blown
* 2 rod bearings blown
* 2 connecting rods damaged
* cranck wasted
* short block wasted due to the bearing that made unrepearable damage
* pistons can be saved but close call
* camshafts doesn't seem to make it. Trying to polish them but there is already some wear
* tranny debatable.... oil was burned... metal inside wich was on my magnetic plug and the TC had quite some movement on it when i pulled it up and down.
Now outter then the oil wich started something our thought is the tranny failed and the TC due to extreme "wobbling" blew my rear cranck bearing and then the rest followed.
Again the cause is not 100% findable but the result is there.
I told myself i would stop if this engine would die on me again but must say have been offered too much help in both material and labour by my engine builder to just walk away from it now.
So version 3.0 in progress.....now with the right oil.....maybe oem cams cause i'm not spending another 1K+ on some cams for the third time but with a Manual Transmission behind it. Checking/repearing my A/T is costing too much comparing to a M/T and if i would have repaired it i'd still have the issues it couldn't handle the power.... again. So back inside she goes....taking my time again cause i do not have limited funds to take care of this right away. Tranny isn't the issue but twinplate clutch etc... is.
