PROLONG Waterless Wash & Shine

thanks stellani. just to clear stuff up, i like the product! and will continue using it. Nothing bad about it yet

i just got home today and inspected the prolong. When feeling the panels i could feel where it was applied and where it wasnt. Windows/panels are still very clear/clean even though i drove throw massive dust/dirt/construction areas. Im going to wash again soon and do the whole car

if i buff the car with prolong, how good do u think it will be in removing swirls? will it be a temporary solution or will the swirls only come back after a couple more crappy washes?

gracias!

I wouldnt buff the car with the prolong. I would use a clear coat polish sold at AutoZone, I use Meguiars. I really would just use the Prolong after every wash when you dont feel like buffing/waxing. Dont forget to use the prolong on your windows as well. It works just as good as Rain-X!

I order it from the website.. The product is cheap.. But the shipping cost more than the product. I order the clear coat and the quick detailer from them... Let's see how this works. I'll try to find it lically and no luck.

Make sure if you order this online, you get the buy one get one free deal. I believe Pmanliu went to a different site than me, and it was more expensive, and they didn't have the BOGO deal.

I don't know about swirls, but if you have some scratches, a German-made product called Quixx works really well. They include a few strips of wet sanding paper (3000 grit) and two tubes of product, one is what removes the scratches and the second is like a polish. Rub on, rub off. It seems a bit scary b/c you're actually wet sanding the clear coat, but the result is remarkable. My FX got keyed straight into the primer on 3 doors and 1 panel so it was way too far gone to salvage without repainting. The gouges were deeper on one side than the other. I decided to try out this product and I was very surprised with the results. The areas that weren't scratched too deeply actually came up looking 90% better. The driver's side, which wasn't as deeply scratched came out 75% better overall, and you couldn't notice the scratches unless you were 6 ft away, depending on how the sun was shining. These were very deep scratches and you could fit your fingernail in the grooves.

Anyways, sorry, don't mean to hi-jack your thread on Prolong. I might start another thread on this if people are interested.

a couple g guys were demonstrating quix at a recent meet. It was pretty awesome how well it worked!

Stu, where is the BOGO deal? I went to the Prolong website and didnt see it, so I figured the 'sale' was over...

Same price I paid. But the shipping is a B****.. I also got the clear coat.. I wonder how that's going to work.

Try both products and it works pretty well specially the one for the plastic trims.. They said tthis products are water resistant so I quick spray my fx even tho it's going to rain now.. Let's see how well it works..

I use ICE and it holds pretty good after rains.. I'll let you guys know.

As a now I'm pretty happy with prolong it give more of a shine to the FX.. Not by much but it's def noticeable..

The only think I don't like is that with what it cost to shipped it's almost the same price as the product.. And it needs to be ordered you can't get it froM a local store.

So in the long run you'll be saving money with ICE or any other detailing product you use.

yeah, I was gonna try it, but missed the bogo offer, so I am just going to stick with the products I already have. Just wanted to try something new but oh well.

I may try ICE for comparison sake. Glad it is working out so far. Keep us updated.

I think ICE is so so. Stuff I like best is the QD from Mothers, not Meguirs (that stuff is crap).
Mothers has great cleaning ability, goes on really smooth & lite & smells like you could drink it.

The great thing about the Prolong is its ease of application and the fact that it is great on dark colored vehicles. It doesnt require elbow-grease to deal with smudges. It really protects the paint too. It also smells real nice and citrusy clean.

GTO... I think the Meguiar''s gold class wax is really good, have you tried that? The key is... do small sections of your car at one time and do not allow the wax to dry. Apply and immediately start to massage wax into paint, flip cloth and polish. Little trick I learned along the way. Also, Meguiar's detail spray is a pretty good product.

I think I have tried the QD from Mother's... is that the stuff that smells like cinnamon?

Smells more like Bubble gum. A little like the FK1 QD. I cannot comment on the Meg's wax, but their QD IMO is not great.

Hi guys, reading your posts with great interest. I dunno if you can get it where your located but, Turtlewax scratch and swirl remover is simply amazing on black cars. I used this on my wifes 2 year old mitsibushi lancer and the swirl and scratches came out with little effort, furthermore I never even used a electric polisher either, all by hand. Here is what I did.

First wash and dried the car, second used Turtle wax swirl and scratch remover panel by panel on the whole car as if I was polishing it. Thirdly, polished the whole car with Autoglym resin polish, fourthly, I waxed it with Swissvax polish. The car came up better than new and with a wet look, reflections were awesome.

I am currently testing all tyre shine products and have a garage full of this stuff as I am not completely satisfied with the results of the ones I have previously purchased.

Hope this helps. I am a car and detailing fanatic by the way I will buy anything regardless of cost to enable my FX to outshine others as well as for my own satisfaction. People here in Taiwan just see a car as to get from A to B, not very often do people take care of their cars or even give it a polish and wax, like perhaps westerners do, its shocking. I always feel that people who drive very dirty cars are also dirty people with a dirty house and have no sense of respect!!

Unfortunately I cannot post full size photos of my new infiniti FX35, I really want to show it off here and let you see the reflections I get, but there again the FX is only a few weeks old so one would expect that it shines well. I would say though that I have managed to get this SUV shining 100% better than when it was delivered to me and I am sure the sales staff and mechanics were surprised by it when I returned to infiniti for its first service......

Ok so I used prolong waterless shine and the one for the plastic trims and this are the results..

The one for the plastic trims didn't even stay after the first rain.. Mind you it does say water resistant.. But it was good while it lasted( prolly 20 minutes till the rain was over lol)

in the other hand the waterless shine is something else.. For the passed few days it's being rainning and my car have being outside and everytime the sun come out my car shines like is new.. So waterless shine from prolong does work really well and it does hold pretty great agains water(rain). It just a shame they don't sell it in retail stores that's my only minus to it..

I will apply it again on my FX, My girl rented one of those rug doctor from home depo so I'll used it to clean the carpet in the house and the carpet In my FX:wink:, the carpet in the fx looks like new again. Totally recomend you to rent one of those from home depo and clean your FX it works.. My girl told me she paid $45 for 24 hours.. That's alot of cleaning you can do with that thing..

Thanks stillanti for letting us know about prolong..

Alright... we have a winner! Great Rubare... I am glad you are happy. It really is easy to use and holds up well. For the short amount of time invested in applying Prolong, your ROI is well worth it. I just noticed the same thing... my car was clean the other day after application, drove home from work in pouring rain. Next day was sunny and the car still looked really shiny and clean (waterspots up close, but who was looking besides me?). Anyhow, glad you are happy with it. Apply it after every wash and it will build an impenetrable force-field around your car!

Oh, and Back-to-Black works great on the lower plastics... but I do not know of any products that will last through a decent rain. Maybe bacon grease will work? I will try that and report back.

Steve
