Prolong Waterless Wash and Shine

Guys, my first job was detailing cars and I did it for about 6 years. I have used all products including most of the expensive ones. If you are looking for something quick and easy, here it is.

It is a thick spray wax that you apply after a wash. It made for paint, but I use it on everything except tires. I use it on my windows (repels water like rain-x), wheels (not tires), exhaust, headlights, etc.

It is honestly the best product I have ever used. It works especially nice on black and dark colored vehicles. I can get my FX done in about 15 minutes and it honestly looks like I just buffed and waxed the car. Everytime. My friends and family joke how I maintain showroom quality at all times, but it really is this easy. Highly recommend this product.

i basically have a store's worth of products in my garage, so i'll need to get this to try it out as well :)
 
so according to the site, i can just spray this and wipe off instead of washing + waxing? I'm thinking about trying this after i wash to substitute waxing.

I guess you could... I wouldnt though. I think a wash is essential to remove road grime prior to rubbing anything into the paint. However, I have used it on the car after it rained, just as long as the car didnt move. It also works great to quickly re-detail your car a few days after you initially cleaned it (as long as you didnt drive in the rain).

No lie Pmanliu... I was a detailer for years... I never use anything else. Only Prolong on the paint after everywash and the car remains a showroom shine like you wouldnt believe.

Do the hood test. Treat half your hood with this stuff and step back. Restores deep color, removes [a significant amount] of swirl marks and minor scratches. Its also great at removing splattered bugs. Smells great. I could keep going... great product for sure.

thanks for the insight man, just ordered a bottle to try! I just waxed my car yesterday... took me many hours in the freaking heat even though i was in the garage. If this works its going to be a life saver:tup:

also to remove the swirls and minor scratches, would i have to buff, or would a single pass be able to remove the swirls? Ive been using scratch x but with massive buffing to remove scratches. Was thinking about buying a PC for swirls but scared of damaging paint

For me... just massaging the Prolong into the paint with a microfiber cloth is all it takes, flip the cloth to the dry side and polish. So easy. You will be very happy with the results considering the small amount of time you are spending.
 
I'm going to have to try this. Maintaining the black is a lot of work... Anymore good tips..:tup:

Like I said before, you can use it on everything (except tires). Definitely use it on the windows, headlights and wheels. For tires I would recommend Zaino. Two products, minimal time and effort, and your car will look great.

BTW, if you do like the stuff, you can order a gallon jug to refill your spray bottle.

Hmm. Will definitely have to try this too, esp if its bogo. I am assuming this is only to be used on semi dirty cars right?
 
is good to wash your car and then apply any detailing products.. but yes you could use it on semi dirty car.. ie you washed it and a couple of day from there you decide to detail it again..
 
yeah, i figure all of the waterless wash products are really for "in between" washes. I've never used one before, but sounds like this one comes pretty highly recommended. Definitely worth a try, especially since its so damn hot outside! thanks!

Precisely... it is great for re-detailing your car, even a couple days after a wash. Just dont use it if there is road-grime on your car, i.e. after driving in the rain... you should never rub road grime into paint.
 
so i got my prolong yesterday and tried it today...

so far, the results werent as WOW as i wished they would be. Its a good product, but ill have to see when it rains and still how well it lasts.

what i did was the drivers side of my car and left the passenger side untouched after the wash. I also did the hood test and didnt really see a significant difference

now for the swirls: the swirls are still there, but maybe its because i did a spray on, and then wipe off. Didn't really massage it into the paint. I'll try again after it rains tomorrow to see if i can get swirls out. I have a sapphire and it is swirled like crazy..

p.s. can anyone recommend a good swirl remover? I'm trying to avoid using a PC or machine b/c im afraid of messing up my paint
 
No product is going to remove swirls unless you buff it out. & dont wipe any product on a dirty car!

yeah im going to try the buff method later. found this on a detailing site "http://www.autopia.org/forum/detailing-articles-videos/77859-test-swirl-removal-hand.html" and was wondering if fillers are only a temporary solution (versus the abrasive products)

on the wiping products on dirty car part - every time i detail, it is after a wash. sorry i forgot to state this :tongue: When i first got my car about 1.5 years ago, i did not know how to detail properly which left a lot of swirls/scratch marks/etc from improper washing techniques... trying to fix blemishes now

Well, I have to say, it is not going to turn your finish back to the first day it rolled off the lot. For what it is (spray wax) and for how easy and time efficient it is... it is a great product. Use it after every wash and for your time invested, you should be very happy with the shine.

Smells great, huh?

BTW, the only way to remove swirls (which will come back) is by buffing. If swirls are real bad, you may want to take it to a professional detailer and spend a little cash. You could also explore the option of wet sanding as well.

Keep my updated on the Prolong.
 
thanks stellani. just to clear stuff up, i like the product! and will continue using it. Nothing bad about it yet


i just got home today and inspected the prolong. When feeling the panels i could feel where it was applied and where it wasnt. Windows/panels are still very clear/clean even though i drove throw massive dust/dirt/construction areas. Im going to wash again soon and do the whole car

if i buff the car with prolong, how good do u think it will be in removing swirls? will it be a temporary solution or will the swirls only come back after a couple more crappy washes?
